Five weeks and two days. That's how long it had been since I finally released Tris. Not even a week yet however every mere second just seemed to last for weeks on end. It probably didn't help that I hadn't seen anyone since then and all I'd really been doing is work. It's so hard without her but without everyone else it seems to be the worst pain possible. Even just sitting there in the kitchen with the grim smeared windows allowing minimal glistens of sun through life dragged and dragged.
Just then, as I was about to head off for some over time, my phone vibrated against my thigh in my pocket. I glanced down at the screen and seen Christina's picture flash on the screen. In the photo she's pulling one of the most putrid faces ever, yet still manages to make it look more attractive them a good proportion of girls on an everyday basis. I can remember when she had taken it. I had been having one of my bad days a few weeks ago and and like always she was their to help. She didn't even know I needed her but somehow arrived just at the right time. We talked well into the early morning, laughing, chatting and just messing about but then ended up asleep. When I awoke she was sitting in the corner of the room with a cotton covered duck fever pillow slung over her curled up legs. At some point through the night she must have slipped out of her buddy and was now sitting in a low cut black vesty thing. The sound of a old camera repeatedly clicked as she was snapping dozens of stupid photo. She hadn't realised I was awake. So when she took that photo, I had on my phone, and I laughed she slightly jumped because I had startled her. Her large eyes shot up towards me making the sun dance across every angle of her face. When she realised what had happened and that it had just been me I could see her muscles loosen as she replaced back into a comfortable position. A hint of embarrassment washed over her face causing the slightest blush across her cheeks but that vanished within seconds as she sarcastically reacted by saying "I think it is the best photo of me ever taken. Do you not agree?" then before I could reply she saved it and continued to say " look now you can see it every time I call you."
My phone buzzed again instantly nocking me back into present day. It was Christina again. My mind began to brighting as I read a text asking if I fancied some fun. A weight lifted within me and within about twenty seconds I replied asking when and where. A smile grew stronger across my face but a small prick of guilt shoots straight through my heart.
I jumped up out of the splintered wooden stool I had been sat on and went for an apple (nothing like dauntless cake I know but it was only ten in the morning). Just as my teeth swiftly pearled the lime green skin of the apple and droplets of sugary, sweet goodness met my tongue I heard a brief sound from outside in the corridors. While I curiously wandered out of the kitchen and through what was supposed to be the lounge a small, brown, scrappy piece of paper slid trough the opening of the door. As I lent down and clutched the paper to begin to read I instantly knew where it was from. Christina's hand writing was strangely awful. Each letter was almost overlapping completely making it it almost Impossible to read. As the letters began to make sense, word formed before soon leading into a single sentence. Hurry up scary lets have a shit load of fun.
I dropped the note, letting it glide to the the ground. With the half eaten apple still placed on my hand I gripped the door handle and pulled it inwards. She was just standing there looking straight at me, with the mischievous glint in her eye. "Took your time didn't you" she sarcastically moaned. " look at me waiting patiently for you while you munched away at this crap" she said as she hit the apple, sending it flying from my hand into hers before she took a bit herself. I just stood looking at her as she over dramatically insisted that I hurried up, pulling at my arm like a child who is bored and wanting her parents to leave...Eventually I obeyed.
