Jellybean POV
I'm not sure why Jughead had forgiven me so easily. I was disappointed in myself for behaving that way. He had stopped asking about anything school related. Right now, he was doing something in his room and I was in the living room writing. I had my favourite notebook and a pen that I found on my desk.To be scared, but not to know why. I wrote. To be certainly uncertain. I despised it. I tossed my notebook beside me and sighed. I heard a phone start to ring. It was Jughead's. His voice was low and fast. Even though I was curious, I headed to my room. The rest of the night went by fairly quickly. Jughead and I had dinner late and Dad got home from work after I went to bed.
It took me a while to get to sleep. I couldn't stop thinking. I slept lightly and woke up to the sound of my alarm. Tiredly, I turned it off, got dressed, had breakfast and started walking to school with Jughead. "You do know what today is, right?" He asked. I looked at him perplexed, then I realized. "Oh." I said. Today was Halloween.
"I don't get it." I added. "I don't either." He agreed. We had never really done Halloween. Maybe because of our parents, or maybe because Jughead and I didn't enjoy things like that. I sighed. "At least tomorrow's Friday." I said, shrugging. He looked at me quizzically. "What? You don't like school?" He asked. "Oh! No! That's not what I meant. I'm just tired, that's all." Half true.
"Okay." Jughead said. We reached my school sooner than I wanted to. "Bye Jelly." He said. I gave him a look. That's what he called me when we were young. "Bye Juggy." I responded. We went our separate ways. "Jellybean!" Rosie called as soon as she saw me. "Hey Rosie!" I smiled at her. "What are your plans for tonight?" She asked. "Sit at home, eat candy. I don't really do Halloween."
"Oh." Rosie responded. "My parents are making me go to this weird Halloween art show thing." She looked disappointed. I grimaced. "Good luck with that." I said. One of the reasons I liked Rosie was because if she knew I was sad about something, she didn't ask about it. Hence why she hadn't asked about the divorce. I was glad I had Rosie and I was glad she knew. I was also glad I had Seth, but I cannot bring myself to tell him just how messed up I truly am.
Jughead POV
I had told Archie yesterday. He knew better than to bring it up again. "Hey, Jughead!" Veronica called. She was alone. "Yeah?" I asked, Veronica rarely spoke to me alone. "Have you seen Betty yet today? Usually she's here already?" Oh. "No I haven't, you're right though, usually she's the first one here."We walked to English together. Making casual and not to mention awkward conversation. Betty didn't end up coming and I couldn't help but worry about that. Yeah, I had much bigger problems than this, but something just didn't feel right about it. I was curious. I decided that I would phone her when I got home. After, however, I told Jellybean about the phone call that I had had yesterday and I'm sure she wants to know about it.
Jellybean POV
Halloween at Middle School was pathetic and chaotic. Like only twenty kids wore these weird costumes and all the teachers kept making really bad Halloween jokes. They must be trying, yes, but really? Luckily, in Socials, which was after Lunch today, we got a free block to just hang out.Rosie, Seth and I sat together. "So," Seth began. "I'm watching Psycho tonight! Anyone care to join me?" He asked. I have never watched a single horror movie, I was terrified of them. Rosie tapped my leg under the table, she ships us, it's very obvious. "Sorry Seth I can't. My parents are making me go to some weird art show." She said. I bit my lip.
"I'd love to come!" I suddenly said. "Just text me time and place." I added. What had I just done? "Great!" Seth replied. "Will do." I was going to make a fool out myself in front of Seth Hill. Oh dear. We kept talking for the rest of the Socials. I was such an idiot. The rest of the day flew by. It ended way too fast for my liking.
"See you tonight Jellybean!" Seth called as he started walking home. I waved at him. "You don't like horror movies, but you sure like Seth." Rosie teased. "I messed up." I mumbled quietly. "Oh come on! You'll do fine!" She said reassuringly. I rolled my eyes. "See you tomorrow." I said. She waved back. "Bye!"
I sat on my usual bench and started tapping my fingers anxiously. I am so screwed, but I wanted to hang out with Seth so, compromise? I saw Jughead and started walking towards him. "What did you do?" He asked as soon as he saw me. "I didn't do anything." I said defensively. "Yet." I muttered. He raised his eyebrows. "Explain." He laughed lightly.
"Well, I, you see, it's just. I'm going to a friend's house tonight, if that's alright, and I already agreed, but we're kinda going to watch Psycho and I kinda don't like scary movies." I bit my lip. Jughead started to full on laugh. "Oh my goodness. Jellybean, you're hilarious." I looked at him. "You'll be fine, Psycho isn't even that scary and which friend? I only know Rosie and your friend boy Seth." He asked.
"You only know them because I only have two friends bud." I rolled my eyes jokingly. "And I'm going to Seth's house." I answered. "Huh." Was all Jughead said. We walked through the door. "Is Dad home?" I asked. He had been at work a lot lately. "I know he's been at work a lot Jellybean, it's the busy season, but Dad's not home right now because he's dealing with uh, some of the divorce stuff." It was then that I went back to reality, there was still the divorce.
Jughead POV
Her face completely fell. "Oh." Her voice was sad. I knew I couldn't tell her about the damn phone call now. Now was not the time. I'd wait until tomorrow. "Jughead?" She asked. She started crying. I hugged her. "What's the matter Jellybean?" I asked softly. She had seemed to be in a good mode. "I don't know." She whispered."It's just that, I felt upset about this." I knew she meant the divorce. I sat her down on the couch. "It's all going to work out, Jellybean. Besides, you're going to have a great time with Seth tonight and tomorrow, who knows? Dad will be home and we'll do something really fun." I told her. Jellybean nodded.
"Okay." She smiled. It was a sad smile, yes, but even though it was a broken smile, I knew that truly, she knew she was going to have fun tonight and a great day tomorrow. It gave me hope that everything was going to turn out alright, but then I remembered that I still had to tell her about that bloody phone call.
