MACON'S POV
"evan? as in arwynn's brother evan?" i question, my mind was racing with a million different thoughts as i looked at my little sister, so innocent and so pure, so damaged and hurt. it broke my heart and tore me to shreds, but thinking about her letting evan do that to her was what really got me. he would always come over with arwynn, which i thought was extremely weird because i don't have a brother, and evan isn't the same age as us.
he's 20 and still lives at home because he's too fucking lazy to get a damn job and move the fuck out. he acts like a little boy and never ever does anything right.
"yes that evan." alyssa sighs as her cries calmed down, "you know he always had the hots for me."
it was true. evan never took his eyes off alyssa, which is why my mom stopped letting him come over, no one wants some grown ass man looking at their illegal daughter that way.
"it wasn't consentual mac. he wouldn't leave me alone." she chokes, looking down as her hair falls over her face.
i looked to grayson, he got the message and left the room, not saying anything.
my baby sister was raped and there was potentially nothing i could do about it until i proved the baby was his.
"how long ago did it happen lyss" i whisper, crouching down next to her. she couldn't even look me in the eyes when she told me it was a little over 3 weeks ago. of course i was too caught up in ethan to notice anything was wrong. yay me.
"we'll get him alyssa. i promise. he's gonna be sorry for doing this to you. to us." i say to try to calm her down.
"hopefully." she squeaks, wiping a tear away, "we can't prove anything until y'know" she says, referencing the fact that she'll have to give birth for anything to be done.
"i know, but mom and i will be here every step of the way. you can count on it" i perk up, not wanting her to feel any more shitty than she already does.
"let's go make you some food. what're you craving?" i ask, standing up and helping her up by pulling on her hand.
she thinks for a moment, "pickles and french toast" she laughs, walking out of the room and down the stairs. grayson sat at the couch and i waved him over once alyssa and i entered the kitchen.
he walks in a few seconds after i do, making his way over to our dining table. alyssa sat on the kitchen counter and pulled out a magazine from our moms wooden cubby she had on the wall.
"are you serious alyssa? you ask me for french toast but you're not gonna help me make it?" i laugh, shooting her a sarcastic glare.
"me? cooking? i knew you were crazy but i didn't think you were plain stupid Mac." she scoffs, flipping a page in the magazine.
i sighed and walked towards the stove on the other side of the kitchen, closer to where grayson was sitting, took out the griddle from under the oven and turned the burners on.
"i can help you." grayson said, standing up from his chair at the dining table and walking towards me, "my family likes my french toast." he smiled. i looked up to him, smiled back and muttered a small thank you. usually a guy that can cook is very rare, i know ethan could, but he wasn't very good if i was gonna be honest, he always burnt my bacon but his pancakes didn't entirely suck. he loves pancakes.
"wheres your bread?" grayson asks, interrupting me from my thoughts. my thoughts of ethan while grayson stood right in front of me, honestly what was wrong with me?
"it's in the cupboard next to the microwave." i reply, pointing towards it.
grayson shoots me a small smile and goes to grab it, throwing it at me from across the kitchen. it lands on the ground and i roll my eyes with a small laugh as i go to bend down and pick the loaf of bread up.
when i stand straight up, grayson stands right behind me, his body pressed against mine, making me jump slightly.
"you should bend over more often mac." he whispers, taking me by surprise. he walks back around, appearing in front of me and sending me a wink. a light blush rose to my cheeks as i grabbed the rest of the ingredients from the fridge.
as i laid the egg carton down on the counter, grayson slid across the floors of the kitchen in his socks, bumping into my side and causing me to drop the carton on to the ground, cracking almost all of the eggs.
"grayson!" i shout, pushing him away so his back hits the counter and bending down to pick the carton up, which was soaked in egg yolk while he laughed at me.
"it's not funny" i huff, "we have a pregnant alyssa on our hands and now we don't have eggs."
he laughs, grabbing the carton from my hands and opening it, revealing only three eggs that had not been cracked.
"look at that, you have plenty of eggs." he smirks, bopping my nose.
"did you just bop my nose?" i ask, stifling a laugh.
"you got-" grayson was interrupted by the ring of his phone. he fished it out of his pocket, shoot me an "i'm sorry" look and swiped, raising it up to his ear.
"yea?" grayson asked, annoyance clearly evident in his tone. he looked down at me, grabbing one of my hands and playing with my fingers, i looked down at our hands and smiled at the gesture, and then back up to grayson, his eyebrows were furrowed as he looked down at the floor, clenching his jaw.
holy fuck was this kid a looker.
"ethan what do you mean?!?!? it's not even six o'clock!" grayson exclaimed, i furrowed my eyebrows at his statement, wondering what was up with ethan.
"where are you?" grayson asks, sounding a little disappointed. he waits for an answer and looks over to me, flashing me a small smile.
"it's not important where i am e, where are you?" he groans, returning to his conversation.
"you're at macon's aren't you?" i hear a voice ask on the other side of the line, ethan's. he sounded..defeated. "i'm at aidens." ethan sighs and seems to hang up right after.
grayson sighs and stuffs his phone back into his pocket after he hangs up. he looks to me, a blank expression on his face.
"i have to go, ethan got himself in trouble."he speaks, leaning closer to me and pecking my cheek, "good luck with dinner." he smiles, "and with her." he adds, looking over to alyssa. i laugh and give him a light wave as i watch him walk to the front door, but my mind was racing with thoughts of ethan.
he was in trouble? he hasn't acted up in a good seven months now and it worries me. as much as i didn't want to though, i shrugged it off and continued with alyssa's dinner, pushing ethan to the back of my mind.
i need to get him out of my head.
