He stared into my blue eyes with his big brown ones as he took a step closer to the edge of the giant bridge that connected my small island town to the rest of the world.
He was what I could only seem to describe as 'broken'; his soul was shattered into millions of little pieces and I could tell by the emotion on his face, or rather the lack of it, that he wasn't capable of being saved.
There was absolutely nothing that could be said or promised that could sway this sad little boy an inch. He was long gone.
He took another step. And another. And another. One more step would be the end. He was taking his sweet time.
I had the chance to stop him but it was ultimately pointless seeing as he would only try again and again until he could.
In the instant that he took his last step, the step that led him over the side of the bridge into the impossibly deep oceanic water, I jolted upright from the position I had been sleeping in.
A dream
