Awakening

They sit at a booth at a diner. "Look I'm a walrus." Ashton says with fries coming down from his upper lip. He mimics a walrus clapping his hands together and making a sound.

"Ashton act your age." Luke scoffs taking a sip of his chocolate shake. Ashton ate the fries in a swift movement.

"Act your age." Ashton mocks scrunching his face at Luke.

"You know I'm surprised, you girls took being Fay so well." Mikey says typing something on his phone.

"Well I think it's more of the awesome powers we get with it." Olivia says.

"More like gifts.. Powers is such a cliched word." Mikey says and Olivia puts her hands up. "Fine gifts. When are we gunna explore them?" She adds.

Ashton sinks back into his seat.

"When ever Aelfric decides to." He says. "Ugh, enough Magic talk! Can't we be normal teenagers for a few seconds." They get quiet. The sun was just beginning it's descend toward the west, making the sky an orange and blue mixture. Ashton starts throwing fries at everyone and Luke just rolls his eyes. And for a few minutes they are normal. Laughing at Ashton's and Olivia's French fry walrus tusks, even Luke smiles. Kassie takes note to all the people getting up and looking at the storm outside.

"Holy shit." She says getting up.

"Is this real or are you guys messing around?" Olivia says nudging Ashton in the side.

"Oh it's real, Eolande. Let's see how your gifts." His hand radiates yellow and he lets loose the light. Ashton pulls Olivia from the table and goes for the counter. Scrambling back toward the table Kassie grabs Cherish and turns a table over on its side.

"Come on now. That's no fun!" The Man says letting loose more yellow light. It skimmed the ceiling and parts fell to the ground.

"What in the ever loving hell is going on?!" Cherish yells and Luke is by her side.

"Just keep your head down. Let the Fay worry about this." He says throwing his jacket over her head. From the other side of the table there's a return of fire. Green sparks fly everywhere as the two lights collide.

Kassie peeks per the top of the table and Ashton is standing.

From the other side of the room another shot is fired and again green sparks fly as Mikey's light collides with the Man's.

With a swift move of the Man's hand Mikey goes flying back into the wall. Kassie wants to scream out but can't. She stands and holds her hand out palm facing the Man.

"What are you gunna do, Nerida?" He says, turning his own hand toward her.

What was she going to do? She didn't know how to use her gifts..

"Concentrate Kassie! Bring the energy to your hand." Mikey says trying to stand. The Man didn't even wait his palm glowed and Kassie panics. Her mind races to find an answer. She closes her eyes and turns her head.

Silences takes the place of the falling ceiling, people running for the door, Cherish and Olivia yelling.

As she slowly opens her eyes everything is frozen. Nothing moves. Standing still as if someone paused time. She looks over at Ashton who has a look of awe on his face. Mikey shuffles to a stand.

"Nice." He says smiling.

Slowly everything starts to move again and Ashton sends a blast toward the Man.

Olivia finds her strength and joins Ashton and slowly brings her hand up.

Kassie sees the concentration on Olivia's face.
