Chapter 11: Confusion

Amorette's POV:

A pale hand reached out to me from the darkness into the light. I reached out to take it, entranced by the golden eyes before me when suddenly I heard the sleigh land.

Jack: Amorette are you okay!? Oh no you're hurt! I'm so sorry this all happened, come back with us, we..."

I saw him lock eyes with the mystery man in the darkness. Jack's eyes and the other's eyes widened. Then they unsheathed their weapons, waiting for me to get out of the way.

North: "Get away from him Amorette!"

Bunnymund: "Sheila he's dangerous!"

Amorette: "He's a guardian like you all. He isn't dangerous."

Jack: "Amorette that's a lie! That's Pitch Black!"

I turned in horror as the man stepped out of the darkness showing his pale form cloaked in shadow. Sand whirled around him as he spoke.

Pitch: "Amorette none of them understands you like I do. People believe in them, no one believes in you except me. I know that together we can make everyone believe! Take my hand my dear, I can make you forget your loneliness and I will stand by your side. We will rule the world together! What do you say?"

Jack: "Amorette please don't listen to him! He's just trying to manipulate you!"

I gripped my head in pain and confusion. I didn't know who to believe anymore.

Pitch Black: "Perhaps this will help you make your decision."

He held in his hand a memory vial like the ones at Tooth Kingdom.

Toothiana: "A vial of teeth ....How did you get that!?"

Pitch Black: "This container holds within it all of your memories Amorette. There's your face on it as proof. They lied to you, they told you that you had no memories so that they could manipulate you. I would never control you in such a way, join me...."

Amorette: "If that's true then why did your nightmares attack me!?"

Pitch Black: "They weren't trying to attack you, they were trying to get you to follow them so they could bring you to me. They only attacked because you attacked them."

Bunnymund: "He is lying Sheila! Nightmares are ruthless creatures"

Amorette: "Why did you want them to bring me to you?"

Pitch Black: "Because I discovered that they were destroying evidence of your existence. The tooth fairy threw your teeth into a cavern and the evidence that they existed. It just so happened to be one of my caverns."

Toothiana: "Amorette we had no idea that existed, we didn't lie to you please don't give in to him! I would never destroy a person's memories like that!"

Jack: "Amorette he probably stole the teeth and your records! It wouldn't be the first time he stole teeth."

Pitch black: "I would never do such a thing, all I want is to protect you from them. I can see your true potential, I see a world where people believe in you but they don't want that because they think you'll be too powerful."

This was all too much to process, I couldn't handle it. What should I do, who should I trust? What's real and what isn't? Their voices became a whisper amid the roar of my racing thoughts.

My thoughts were interrupted by Jack flying in to attack Pitch. In the dim light I saw Pitch create a bow of black sand, Jack didn't see the weapon until it was too late to get out of the way. An arrow was fired and without a second of hesitation I made the choice of who I trusted and flew between the arrow and Jack.
