Jack's POV:
I couldn't sit back and listen to the lies he was feeding her. I could see the confusion and fear written all over her face and I knew actions not words would fix this. I decided to swoop in, take the container of teeth and give them to Amorette. That way he couldn't hold her memories over her head and she could clearly see the truth. This was the worst mistake of my life.
I charged in with my staff against the wishes of the other guardians. I didn't see the bow of nightmare sand until it was too late. Before I could react, an arrow was fired in my direction. It was too late to get out of the way, I closed my eyes tight and balled myself up. I waited to feel the stinging pain of the arrow but I didn't. Everything was silent. Then I felt something drip on me.... something warm.
I opened my eyes, I was surrounded by white feathers. I looked up and I felt my heart shatter. Amorette had her wings wrapped around me to protect me. She was smiling down at me despite the fact that all the color had drained from her face except for the red of her lips as blood gurgled out between them. From her chest the black arrow protruded, dripping with crimson blood down onto my cheek.
I looked at her, speechless and shocked. A painful voice escaped her lips as a gentle hand caressed my cheek. It was no longer warm against my skin, it was the coldest feeling I had experienced in my life and I shivered.
Amorette: "A-are y-you okay? C-c-can you s-stand?"
Even as she stood before me bleeding out, she was only concerned for my well being. I quickly rose up just as she collapsed. I caught her and we both fell to the ground with her in my arms.
Jack: "Amorette! Why? Why did you save me?"
Amorette: "T-the world needs y-you. The c-children ne-need you. I I I'm so s-sorry Jack."
I felt her slowly dying in my arms, I looked to the other guardians for help but their eyes held the same desperation as mine. North and Tooth had silent tears streaming down their faces, Sandy no longer floated, and Bunny was looking away too tough to be seen weak.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes, despite my efforts to be brave for her they spilled over and froze onto my icy cheeks. I wanted more than anything to be warm for her in her final moments, but all she would feel was coldness.
She took her final breath in my arms, still stroking my cheek as though to comfort me.
Then malicious words ripped me from my melancholy, our enemy was still there. The murderer who stole away the world's love.
