The familiar beep of my alarm, signalled for me to get up for school.
"Ughhhh..." I groaned and stretched my stiff limbs, hearing the satisfying crack of my bones.
"Denny!" My three younger siblings burst into my room and jumped onto my bed.
I giggled and opened my eyes to see Aaron, my 6 year old brother, blowing raspberries in my face. Ben, my 15 year old brother, sat at the edge of my bed and laughed pointing at my hair.
"Good morning cave woman!" I glared at him playfully and threw a pillow at his face. Carolyn, my 12 year old only sister, hugged me and smiled before exiting my room to get ready for school as well.
"Denise!" I heard my dad bellow from downstairs. "You're going to be late for school!"
"Coming Dad!" I yelled in reply, only to shove my two brothers out of my bedroom. I can never get peace in this house.
I slipped on some black skinny jeans and an olive green plain top that slid over one shoulder, with some army converse to compliment the look.
"Look who's back!" Elliot, my 20 year old brother burst into my room and enveloped me into a bear hug.
"Ellie!" I squealed and wrapped my legs around his waist, hugging him back. "How's university going bro?"
He grinned and pulled away, setting me back down onto the ground. "It's going great! I'm back for the weekend though, this is one crazy family."
I nodded in agreement and laughed, slinging my packed bag over one shoulder.
"Well you'd better go see the other monkeys. Aaron will be so happy you're back." I grinned and pushed him towards the stairs, hearing familiar shouts of my family emerge from the kitchen.

"How was the chaos this morning Denny?" My best friend, Riley strutted over to me with her chestnut coloured hair tied securely into a side-braid.
"Chaotic as ever." I chuckled and linked our arms as we strolled into school.
"I hate Wednesday's," Riley muttered and dragged me along to where our small group of friends were chatting.
"Hey guys!" I greeted while offering a small wave.
"Hey." Dylan winked at Riley playfully while she oh-so-graciously flipped him off.
"'Sup bitches!" Bethany (Beth to her friends) hugged us both warmly while planting a kiss on each of our cheeks.
"Baby girl!" Matt, Riley's boyfriend scooped her into his arms and planted a sloppy kiss on her cheek while smiling goofily.
"Hey Hun." Riley smiled warmly and soon they were locked in a shove-your-tongue-down-each-others-throat make out session.
"Keep it PG ladies!" Beth snarked, pulling them away while Dylan and I pretended to gag and throw up.
Dylan is Spanish and moved over to New Zealand from Spain in the first year of high school with his mother and younger brother Pédro. He has thick, black hair and rocks the just-rolled-out-of-bed look. He has tan, olive skin and dark brown eyes that hint at his heritage. He's also lean, not too muscular and has the easy-going attitude. He's generally a great guy but a massive flirt.
Bethany is European and moved here when she was seven years old with both of her parents. She has dirty blonde hair that she's always wears up either in a bun or a pony tail. She also is flattered with a pale, milky completion that make her big blue eyes pop. Her personality consists of bitchyness, sassyness, and she has an attitude the size of Texas. However, she is a loving person if you get to know her and she doesn't put up with bullshit.
Riley and Matt are from New Zealand, much like myself. Riley has lived in Auckland all her life with her dad and little sister, Sunday. She has chestnut locks that flow down to her waist and a rocking tan that she earned in summer sun-bathing by her pool. She's a class president and very popular with everyone in our school, Riley is overall a very loveable person and is the gossip queen of our school.
Matt is an orphan. That hasn't bothered him and he continues to search for his biological parents, but for now he lives with his two foster sisters and parents. He is quite a buff guy with blonde hair and mischievous green eyes since he's always playing pranks on everyone in our year at high school. He's also a complete goofball who's in love with Riley.
Then there's me. Black hair that falls just past my shoulder blades and a slight tan from spending the summer mostly outdoors. Dull brown eyes and I'm the shortest in our group. I lived in Christchurch until I was 5 and then moved to Auckland after Ben was born. My family consists of Elliot, me, Ben, Carolyn (Known as Lynn to our family and friends), Aaron and my mother is currently pregnant with twins at the age of 36. We are quite a wealthy family and my mother had her first child when she was 16.
I've known my group of friends since the start of high school, excluding Riley who I've known since the first year of intermediate.

After 6 and a half hours of torture, in other words school, my friends and I decided to head over to Beth's since she's home alone until 9:30pm.
"So.." Beth shimmied into her bean bag in the living room, eyeing us all expectantly.
Riley and Matt collapsed onto the couch, shuffling into a comfortable position that consisted of Riley almost laying on top of her boyfriend.
"So?" I raised an eyebrow at Beth, seating myself onto the other couch with Dylan's head in my lap.
"Who's up for a good old 'Welcome back to school' party on Friday night?" Beth has always been known as the party animal of our group, throwing the sickest parties was her speciality.
Our group nodded in agreement.
"Matt!" Riley screeched in horror at Matt, who was currently devouring a whole packet of Doritos.
"Fucking hell Matt!" I yelled.
He grinned mischievously and ran outside, leaping into the pool.
With all the Doritos. Fucking genius.
