I woke up on a cold December Tuesday. Christmas was two weeks away. I didn't have a care in The the world but there was one thing. I was 21 and not out yet. I'm gay as fuck. Trust my best friend will tell you. I decided to make a coming out video since i was already decently popular on TouYube (fake YouTube in my dream) so I asked my best friend Gretchen for her to bring the camera up to me because she was downstairs and I was setting up the ring light and tripod.
"What kind of video are you making this week?" She asked.
"My coming out Video!" I said she already knew I was gay she was one of the first people to know. "My channel was a decent following already maybe I can help people and help inspire the LGBT community."
"I'm so proud of you!!" Gretchen said on the verge of tears.
"Now, get out I can't cry right now." I said. She left the room. I set the camera up with the microphone and realized there was no turning back. I pressed the start button on the camera and just looked at myself through the viewfinder for a moment. Then I started talking and shaking. I told my whole story of being hidden for a while then coming out to certain people. I even told a little story of my first boyfriend.
I finished editing the video and pressed upload. I started crying because I was so happy. I was free. I felt liberated. My whole audience was so supportive. I got 100k views in an hour. My mom was happy that I could be myself now. Gretchen walked upstairs and gave me a hug. She watched the video first.
"That was one of the most inspiring things I've ever seen. Jake, I'm so proud of you!" Gretchen said. She walked out of my bedroom. "I have to go for a few hours but I'll be back."
"Ok." I said as I laid down on my bed. I fell asleep for 20 minutes before I woke up to a buzz on my phone. It was a DM from this guy that I knew for years and SECRETLY liked named Dustin. He was gay too. His message said: "Hey, I saw your video. I'm super proud of you Jake. I wanted to ask you if you.....Wanted to go on a date?"
Like he's 5 years older than me but age ain't nothin but a number. So I yelped and texted Gretchen. Her message said: "if you don't say yes I'll murder you so hard"
So I said "Yes I would love that."
