5 million souls, dreaming, in a constant sleep state for thousands of years. A constant beep gently rang out through the halls of the S.S. Continuity, the only sound in space it seemed. All that was left of humanity had made it safely, against all odds to a strange place. If all went will, it would become home.
Dark corridors suddenly became awash in white light, an alarm cut through the air, flashing lights spun around on the walls. Cryogenic pods hissed as the seals inside broke, opening for the first time in several millennia. It started with just a few, mandatory crew woke up, dry heaving and clenching their stomachs as they stumbled out of their pods. Such a long sleep made muscles weak, legs were shaky and people fell over. It would be these few thousand that would prepare for the rest, ready the ship for the great thaw. Ren, Captain of the reconnaissance teams was one of those waking up. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes, trying to clear his vision and thoughts from the long sleep. There was a wheelchair beside the pod so Ren carefully shifted himself from the pod to it, he knew he couldnt trust his legs.
"Hey Cap, think there's any coffee ready?" Ten looked over to see one of his rookies crawling to his wheelchair. It was Jenkins, the comedian of the group.
"Well Jenkins, considering we all just woke up, you might need learn to make it." Ren hated mornings.
"Very funny sir, see if I bring you any." Jenkins rolled himself away, Ren wasn't sure where he thought he'd find a coffee maker.
Ren found himself a mirror, guessing he look it pretty rough. Surprisingly cryo sleep didn't let much hair grow, rough stubble covered his jawline, short brown hair adorned his head. Ren was always thankful he didn't inherit his dad's receding hairline. Steel blue eyes scanned his face, finally deciding he looked halfway decent. It would be a long few months of therapy for everyone on board before any real operations could begin, but Ren was excited. He knew if him and his sqaud was awake, that meant they had arrived at their potential home. It was their job to be the first down, as a priority to see how hostile the environment would be, but also if it was already populated. He would be like Columbus, an explorer, finding new lands.
As he wheeled himself off to grab some food and mentally prepare for rebuilding all of his muscle, he contemplated what he would find, plants, animals maybe even intelligent life. These thoughts would keep him going through the next few months, and his soldiers as well.
