It was the next day and I was avoiding everyone during lunch, reading in the library.
No. Revenge was bad, I refused to go through with it.
"...Because she's my girlfriend." I heard a familiar voice grumble. "I love her."
"You came onto me. Now tell me how you love her again?" Emily's angry quiet voice snapped.
I grabbed my book and ducked into a corner was listened to them talking.
Mark huffed, "I'm ending this now."
"She's my bestfriend too. But remember how you cheated in her for an entire year, okay? And with not only me. Do you really think she's going to forgive you?"
"She already forgave me-"
"She's the sweetest person I know, but you seriously need to be realistic about this. I feel like shit, too, she trusted me."
"Fuck you, Emily." He snapped and walked off with her rolling her eyes and going the opposite way.
An entire year.
I stood there and thought to myself, feeling like more a fool than ever. How did he manage to cheat on me with not only my best friend for an entire year, but others too? The damn waterworks were running again, and I had to cover my mouth with my hand to avoid the sobbing.
Soon enough, the bell rang and I was forced to go to class looking like a mess.
When the bell rang, I wasn't sure what came over me, and I went quickly to the football field where the players began their practice and waited for Alex to come out of their locker room, and when Mark did I hid, having him not see me.
When Alex walked out, I grabbed his hand and spun him around, seeing his surprised face and trying to ignore how good-looking he looked in his uniform. "Ava-"
"I'll do it." I said, hating how miserable I sounded and was sure he probably spotted the stupid tear stains on my cheeks, and my reddened eyes for sure gave it away as well.
"Really?" He asked in surprise, and a whistle sounded from the field and he ignored it.
I nodded.
"Rivers!" I heard their coach shout to Alex with a ridiculously authoritative tone, and Alex turned, "We're starting practice, lets go." He demanded.
Alex turned to look at me and backed up. "I'll call you." He promised, and ran off to the field.
I watched as he did and turned, heading to my car to go pick up DJ and head home.
Me and my brother had a quiet and boring night, and soon Alex called like he said he would. "Let's talk in person." He said over the phone.
"I can't go anywhere with DJ, he's getting tired."
"I'll be over in ten minutes."
After he hung up, I couldn't help but wonder how weird it was that we were talking. We never really ever payed much attention to each other before, so it was odd.
When he came over he wore a white tshirt and dark jeans, looking as if he'd just showered. He sat down at the counter and leaned back casually, as if he owned to place. "So you'll do it?" He asked.
I looked at him, "I said I would."
"Ava!" I heard DJ calling my name from up the stairs and gave Alex the universal hold-on-a-second sign with my finger.
"What's up?" I asked, heading up the stairs and checking on my brother to see he was tucked and ready in bed.
"Good night." He said sweetly and I bent down to give him a kiss on his forehead.
