I stopped the car right in front of a very high story building. A guard motioned for me to follow him to park my car in an empty car park.Fixing my dress I went inside the lobby to ask for the direction of the office.
Once I was on the right floor I informed the front desk. She confirmed my presence and told me to proceed to room 506.
I asked once again if I heard the office number right. Because Kenny had given me a different office number.
I knocked on the office door and opened it. And held my breath. Seated on the chair was the most gorgeous man I've ever seen. He exuded intelligence, strength, and power.
He motioned for me to sit down and foolishly I shook my head and stammered that I must be in the wrong office because I was supposed to be meeting Miss Chantal.
"My sister has to leave the country so soon. And since I'm here she instructed me to do the interview. With strict emphasis not to keep you as my secretary." He said.
"Please do sit." I realized I haven't sat down as I was mesmerized by his charms.
He introduced himself then after telling me his name he said. "You must be Emily Rose Smith, I'm pleased to meet you."
She smiled and then he said. "Miss Chantal my sister is not available today. But she left enough instructions for you to do when you start tomorrow? That is if you are still interested in the job?" He raised his brow at her in such a charming way.
She caught her breath. She was used to men flirting with her when she was single but after her marriage she was confined to the house tending the children and her husband that flirting has become a foreign phenomenon.
She was sure that she blushed. But she tried to confidently answered him.
"That's why I'm here sir. I am very interested in this job and I can start tomorrow if that is what Miss Chantal wants. And I'm really grateful for this opportunity to work in your company." She said."You are not here just because of a favor. You are here because you have a very good resume." He replied.
" What can I say but thank you. I'm really grateful sir".
"One more thing though, how can we be assured that you will give your dedication to us when you have two children to care of?" he inquired.
That question was tricky but she was able to give him a satisfactory answer when he smiled at her after she has given him her reply. So after a series of questions he then proceeded to give her the things she needed to do tomorrow.
He gave her all the names and contacts and catalogs with the specific instructions of how the design would be used and altered to meet the client's taste. The chairs and cabinets were for the new condo unit that they have done.
With a final handshake he told her that if she can survive the one week trial she would secure the spot as his sister assistant. And if his sister is satisfied with her performance she is entitled to a bonus after each project. And with a wink he told her that she's welcome to be his secretary anytime if she changed her mind.
She can't believe her luck. So with a smile on her face she began her drive back home to her children. How unfortunate that with just a click of a finger her life had changed. Before she used to say her husband and children now it's just her children.
Emily drove home with a new sense of pride and a new sense of self-image. She felt awesome to finally be on her own. To be able to support her children and herself is a feeling of ultimate freedom. She may only be on a trial for this job but she will make sure that she will be the best assistant to the best interior designer she has known.
Freedom is not that she is at last free of the hurts that she have known of her husband's infidelity but knowing that she can be her own person is the freedom that she feels right now. To untangle oneself of the web that tied her to dependency is exhilarating. How could she have gotten this far in her marriage that even making her own decisions seems not possible anymore?
She vowed that she will let it be. And that she would be the captain of her life starting right now.
