"Hurry, the plane leaves in minutes!"
I couldn't afford to stop. We couldn't afford to stop. For if we did, we wouldn't make the flight in time. Kyung Mi wasn't far behind, she was at least a foot back but I could see it in her face.
She was tired and strained.
God how I wish we could just stop and take a break.
"Sunni please, let's slow down." Her voice was faint. A sigh passing her chapped lips once I responded with what she didn't want me to say. "My feet are-" She knew what I was thinking. She already knew so she stopped herself mid-sentence. "Never mind."
"Give me your hand." My arm extended to her. Hand slipped into mine, her palms were sweaty. My movements stopped.
Maybe it was best for us to stop.
She asked why we ceased to move.
"Maybe," I looked into her eyes. "Maybe we should stop. We'll catch the next flight tomorrow." Of course, her face lit up after hearing that.
A breathe of relief escaping her body. Kyung Mi released the heavy bag in her other hand, dropped the bag that lay on her shoulder and loosened the strap of the bag on her back.
"Thank god. We can stay in a nearby hotel." I nodded in response.
"Look up the nearest one." She nods, taking her phone from out her back pocket. We stood there for a couple of minutes, giving me time to view my surroundings.
I was going to miss this place. The place I called home. We're leaving to go to our birth place, China.
"Found one." My body turned back to my sister. I took her phone into my hand and looked at down onto the screen. "It's a mile away from here." A few hairs stood on the back of my neck.
"A mile? None closer?" She shook her head no and I groaned in response. "What a day." I mumbled as I called for a cab.
----
"15 dollars." Kyung Mi handed the cab driver a 20. While she waited on the change, I stepped out the car and grabbed our luggage out of the trunk.
The trunk popped open and lifted. My eyes scanned the items and oh my god, we had so much luggage for two people. Me being me, grabbed what I could carry, almost all of them, and left the rest for Kyung Mi who had just stepped out of the car.
She looked at me, then the bags. "You know, I could carry some too. I'm not weak." I ignored her and walked into the building.
I want this night to end quickly. I just want to rest and hurry on over to China. The desk attendant looked up at us, she immediately smiled.
"Hi, welcome to Mary Starr Hotel. How may I help you?" Kyung Mi opened her mouth. I cut her off.
"One room, for one night." The smile stayed plastered on her face. She nodded and told us the price. We paid it and she gave us the room key.
"You may leave you bags here. We have to check them but afterwards John," She pointed toward a tall male, leaning against the wall and smiling. Creepy he was. "He'll personally takes your bags to your room."
"Thanks." I replied plainly. My bags dropped to the ground and I walked off to the elevator. Kyung Mi followed in pursuit but not after she thanked the desk lady as well.
"Thank you very much." I heard my sister say. She's too nice. Always giving compliments and hugging people. Ew, germs. "Sunni, wait up." My pace slowed.
As we approached the elevator, I felt as her hand grab mine. It was no longer sweaty.
Just warm and soft.
I should have known though, she likes to keep her hands soft. I mean, forever moisturizing them. A 'Bing' sounded and the elevator doors opened. Three other people were on board and it wasn't a big elevator. Meaning I'd have to rub against people.
Those thoughts are what stopped my feet from stepping inside the small room. Kyung Mi tugged my arm lightly and looked back.
"Lets take the stairs." Kyung Mi let out a pitched chuckle but I was serious. She noticed my seriousness and sighed. Her hand fell from mine and the door began to shut.
"I'll meet you up there." And bam, I was alone. My eyes rolled and I walked away to find the stairs.
"Found 'em." Pushing the door open, I peeked inside the stairs case and immediately regretted taking the stairs. It was worse than the elevator. The whole reason why I didn't get on the elevator was because of the people aka germs. But this?-
The metal door shut behind me and I looked at the disgusting railing and stairs.
-This was far worse!
I lifted my left foot up onto the first step and exhaled. My body lent forward, weight resting on my leg as I began my journey up to the 27th floor.
"So, how was the workout?"
A groan escaped my lungs. My body flopped onto the bed. The soft, lavender smelling bed. My sister laughed and she made her way to the bed I was on. She took off her jacket and tossed it on the nearby sofa.
The bed shifted as she sat down. Her hand making its way up my clothed back causing me to exhaled at her touch. "Come on, get up and go take your bath first."
"Okay." She stood, the bed shifted. I lifted my body and did as told.
The bathroom was nice. A big mirror with two sinks underneath it. Both connected to a marble counter. The toilet was across from the door and the tub was big. Big enough for three people.
I kid. Probably just for two.
Slowly, I began to strip my clothing off as Kyung Mi spoke to me through the door. The tub was motion sensored which was new to me. Never had I even seen anything of the sort.
I swiped my hand in front of a black panel on the tub wall and water began to fill the empty space below me.
"Cool." I whispered. I slowly sunk down until my bare bottom made contact with the tub floor. Goosebumps appeared as my back touched the back of the tub.
It took a while for the space to be full with water but guess what? There was a bubble dispenser. Of course, it was motion sensored too. I swiped my hand across the panel and a wired noise sounded. A small squirt of soap mixed with the pouring water and the bubbles appeared quickly.
"Really cool." I spoke in amazement.
.
.
.
A good amount of minutes past and I was still in the tub.
My ears lifted and my tail swayed in the water. I was too happy. I called out for my sister to come see and when she entered the room, she was surprised as well.
"Ooo, pretty." She laughed and pet my head, rubbing the tip of my ear in between her index and thumb. "Take all the time you need, call me when you're done."
"Okay." She left after that. I was alone, peacefully. My body relaxed and I closed my eyes, exhaling. "I'll enjoy this while I still can."
