He looked into the distance. There was smoke coming out of a chimney. The white smoke contrasted against the darkening sky. Curiosity overtook him, and he started to make his way closer to the cabin. It had been the only sign of civilization for miles on.
Finn and his wife were on their honeymoon, staying at a family cabin in a forgotten forest. Finn had gone out to get more wood for the fireplace as night was approaching. Temperatures could drop down to 10°. He meant to hurry so Grace, his wife, doesn't get too cold, but the smoke distracted him, luring him away from his wife and home. He started walking, no idea where he was headed, but knew, somehow he would get there. The closer he got to the cabin the clearer it looked. The outside of the cabin had a rustic style to it. Made from all brick and wood, with a homemade looking shed beside it. The only light that was emitting from the cabin was from the fireplace. Finn seemed to be entranced by the cabin. He slowly approached the cabin, feeling the texture of the bricks, each bump, and crack that ran along the surface that divided the outside from the inside. He took notice that the shed had a lock on it, but still attempted to open it, of course failing.
As he got out of his daze he realized the sun had completely gone down. He had been there longer than expected. Worried about his wife, he rushed to the door, knocked, and waited. No one came to answer so he tried knocking again. Still no answer. He grasped the door handle attempting to open the door without making any sound. He peeked his head inside to see if anyone was around, but the room was empty. The cabin appeared to be just one room, one empty room. All that was inside was the fireplace and a huge stack of dusty firewood. He did not question anything twice and grabbed some of the wood, getting ready to go home, when he heard a sudden creak from the doors hinges. He turned quickly, seeing the door fully ajar with a tall, dark, mysterious figure standing in the doorway.
¨Hello?¨ Finn questioned the man. ¨Sorry I barged into your home like this. I thought no one lived here...¨.
The room went silent. Finn could feel the air thicken as the only noise permitted was the deep breathing of the man in the doorway. He wanted to get out of there as quickly as possible.
¨Look..um..I'll pay you back for the wood..¨
