"Alright, guys, our first attempt to bust out of this god-forsaken hellhole didn't work-" Max said as I interrupted him.
"shithole." I corrected as he rolled his eyes. "Whatever. But tonight's gonna be different."
"Because we have a secret weapon... Billy Nikssilp." I finished smirking. Beforehand Max had told me about Billy. In the morning we talked about it and he explained it to me ahead of time since him and I were hanging out a lot more now ever since that mascot thing in the woods with the quartermaster.
"Call me "Snake." Snake spat as he narrowed his eyes. He had dark skin, an eyepatch, and mid-short dark brown hair. He wore a strange outfit that almost looked like a boot camp outfit.
"He's ex-wood scouts. And he's one of the best. Isn't that right, Billy?" Max asked him with a smirk as I crossed my arms with the smirk still on my face.
Billy- or Snake nodded as he bit into a candy cane he had on him.
"Got my search-and rescue badge in two weeks... Got my wilderness survival in one." He explained to us as I yawned uninterested, while Nikki was the opposite.
"That's amazing!" Nikki gasped in awe.
"I never had a choice." He finished as he looked away.
"The Woodscouts are some of the most intense, militant campers on Lake Lilac." Max explained to them. Neil just seemed like he was regretting being friends with us already.
"Billy here escaped." I added.
"...And why is he helping us?" Neil asked the million dollar question. Why was he helping? I frowned in thought as I glanced at Max.
"I'm not doing this for YOU." Snake said as he emphasized the word 'you' darkly.
"I made a vow." Snake finished as he stared into the night sky. There was a moment of silence as we eyed him weirdly before Neil spoke up.
"...Well, o-kay, let's get in the boat!" Neil said as we got into the small boat and headed off.
--
"So... what're you guys gonna do on the outside?" Neil asked looking over at Nikki and I. I shrugged and yawned. "I never really thought about it, I guess the only thing ever on my mind was to get out of this shithole and do something promising with my shitty ten year old life." I finished as I looked at my nails. Nikki smiled.
"That was deep."
"Shut up Nikki."
"Oh.. U-Uh what about you Nikki?" Neil asked directing his attention to her now.
"Probably live with the animals. Try and get raised by wolves, maybe work my way up to alpha. Pee on stuff." Nikki shrugged with a simple smile. I rolled my eyes and shook my head.
"What about you guys?" Nikki asked referring to Max and Neil.
"I think I'll go to my dad's house and tell him that mom sent me to an abusive summer camp. Pretend to like him more so she'll try to buy back my love." Neil said grinning as I raised a brow.
"That's really dark, Neil." "No shit, what the fuck Neil."
"How 'bout you, Max?" Nikki asked as Neil ignored answering Nikki and me.
"...Max?" I asked softly as I barely realized the look of worry on his face. He continued to ignore us as he looked at the surroundings.
"Billy..."Max mumbled getting his attention.
"Where are you taking us?" He asked nervously.
"...Shortcut." Snake responded quietly. Max frowned as he looked down at the water, his eyes widened. I wasn't sure what he saw, but before I could question him everything happened all at once.
Snake had stabbed Max with the candy cane he was chewing on earlier. It now had a sharp edge. "Aah! JESUS CHRIST!" Neil cried out in surprise.
I glared at Snake as my eyes narrowed. "Fuck you!" I spat as I jumped on him. I clawed at his face as he growled and slapped me off of him. I held my cheek and glared at him.
Snake looked away from me and stomped towards Nikki and Neil. He growled as he grabbed onto Nikki and held her up high as she attempted to wiggle free out of his grasp.
"YO! WHAT GIVES?!" She asked glaring at him.
"NO GIRLS ALLOWED!" He screamed as he threw her into the water with ease.
"NIKKI!" Neil and I shouted together.
"Ollie, Neil, quick! Grab his-!" Max said as I realized Neil had already jumped off into the water for Nikki.
"Aw, shit." Max mumbled as Snake punched Max in the cheek. I glared at Snake as I raced to Max's side and helped him.
"You never left them, did you Billy?!" Max spat as he held onto his cheek.
"I made a vow... to show others the glory of the Woodscouts. And I told you..."
"TO CALL ME SNAKE." He finished as thunder erupted in the night sky, almost like a horror movie. He glared us down. I grunted as I felt my head hit with something hard and blacked out.
