"Hey Ugly!"

Those were the first words you spoke to me in middle school. It was recess. A geek that I was reading silently by myself at the corner away from the other kids. You come to me with your unkempt hair and sharp almost eyes. You cast your shadow over me darken the pictures from my book. I ignore your presence not wanting any conflicts.

"Move! We're playing here!" You said.

I didn't reply and continue reading.

You didn't leave, but continue to insult me.

"Are you deaf or what? Do I need to speak nerd to you?"

"......"

"Ugh! Just staring at you wants to make me barf."

"......."

"Hey! Listen to me!"

"......"

You were fed up and snatch the comic book away from my hand.

"Give it back!" I shout and glare my eyes at you.

You take  a look at the page I'm reading

You snort, "Lame."

"Give it!" I stand up reading for my book, but you moved back.

"Why?" You teased.

"It's mine!" So give it!"

I put my hand out so you can hand it over to me. Instead you want me to chase you.

"If you want it, come get it!"

I ran after you. I try many times to catch you. You laugh at me. You threw my book on the ground.

Couple of kids trampled all over it by accident. I ran over to pick it up and see footprints on the front cover. The pages were bended. I heard your laughter from behind and insulting me.

I remember making a fist and punch you right at your left cheek.

You hit the ground and I continue the attack. I threw punches. You fought back yanking at my hair. Our classmates chant out, "Fight! Fight! Fight!"

I don't remember how long we fought, but I know the teachers got ahold of us.

Our parents were called.

We sat next to each other in front of the principal office as the parents discuss our punishment. We blame one another,

Then we turn our heads away not wanting to look at each other.

I look at my book that is been covered in footprints and not in the best condition.

I silently cry until you saw me and ask.

"Are you crying for a book?" you said.

"leave me alone," I try to wipe my tears, but they keep falling.

"You are a freak. Crying over a book."

I push him off his seat..

"THIS IS MY SISTER'S BOOK! THIS IS PRECIOUS BEFORE SHE-"

I begin to wail.

You were startled.

My parents rush out of the principal office and into their arms to calm me down.

Your parents scold you and said something to you.

The punishment will be postpone.

I haven't spoke or seen you for three days until you came over to me during recess as I was drawing with chalk on the ground. Your shadow cast over my drawings. I knew it was you without looking up.

"What?" I said.

You put the bag in front of my face.

I look at you.

"For you," You said waiting for me to take the bag.

"No," I reply.

"Take it."

"No!"

"Do it!"

"No!"

You opens the bag and place the book in front of my face. It's my comic book, but this isn't mine. I left my comic back in the bookshelve where I know it'll be safe. This book is brand new.

I take a look at the comic and open it to the first page. A sticky note is place.

"Sorry"---Daxton.

I look at him seeing his eyes looking somewhere not making direct eye contact with me.

I closed the book and hand it over to you.

"I don't need it."

"Did you not read what I wrote?"

"Writing in sticky note isn't sincere. I need to hear it from you."

"I'm not apologizing in public."

"Then, I don't want your gift."

You puff your cheeks seeing a hint of red.

"I spent my allowance on this book. Accept it!"

"No, I need apology."

"Fine! Sorry!"

"No, to my sister."

Tears were falling again. You were startle and turn your head.

"Look....I'm sorry I.....was mean and I'm sorry to your sister. I bought the same book you have so no need to cry."

"Thank you." I wipe my tears.

I accept book. I was about to put it in my bag.

"Hey." You said.

"What?"

"When I bought that book, I sort of read it. It seems......okay, can you tell me what's it about?"

"You like it?!"

"No!.......yes" you whisper at the end.

I pat my hand on the ground to let him sit next to me. He sat down.

We chat and surprising got along.

From there, we become unlikely best friend.
