I envied the birds in the sky
How they flew high,
Without a single worry
I envied the squirrels in the trees
How they would pass by and scurry,
Not a single worry
I envied the people I passed by
In the street
For they seemed so happy,
Joyful and free.
I used to envy the fish
Who swam across the ocean,
Carrying not a single worry.
I used to envy the flowers
For they could sway in the wind,
feeling not a bit of worry.
I even envied the flies
and the pesky mosquitoes
Who flew infront of me and
Landed on my hand,
Without a single worry
I used to envy those who
Had freedom along their side,
But I never envied me.
Until realization hit me on the head
As I was staring at the birds in the sky.
Birds can end up in a cage
And squrriels in a hunting range,
The smiles of the people could be fake
And fish don't always
live in oceans and lakes
The flowers can be plucked,
Put in a vase and on a display
And the mosquitos killed,
With a single press of bug spray
Sometimes no one is really free
But it's their choice
whether or not to be.
