High School: The Torture Zone

Chapter 1: First Day

 Holly’s POV

Holly Bennet looked at the stairs of her new school, Greenwood College, and resisted the urge to run. It looked really intimidating, especially after her old school. Greenwood was all red brick, and stone stairs, whereas Geelong had been all bright posters, and wooden steps. Holly dragged her thoughts back to the present, and taking a deep breath, started to walk up the stairs. She was almost at the top, when a sudden weight on her bag made her cry out in surprise. The weight was accompanied by a loud, “HHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYY!” After she had recovered her balance, and her composure, Holly turned around with a laugh. Standing there was a crazy looking, wild-eyed, brown-haired girl, who was basically shaking in anticipation.

“KAT!” Holly cried, and gave her tackled her friend with a hug. Kat laughed, and grinned at Holly, her multi-coloured eyes sparkling with amusement.

“So”, Kat said, leaning casually back onto the railing, “Did ya miss me?” Holly grinned, and held out her arm. Kat immediately joined arms with her, and together, they walked up the steps.

Holly, who was already feeling much better since Kat’s surprise greeting, managed to feel a bit excited about the new school year. As the two girls walked through the courtyards, Holly turned to Kat, “Have your brothers been giving you much trouble?” Kat unhooked her arm from Holly’s to lay the back of her palm dramatically against her forehead.

“The torture!” she wailed, “You won’t even be able to imagine the pain I have gone through! I can’t even pee without them somehow managing to play a prank on me!” Holly grinned, knowing that Kat loved her brothers, and no matter how much she complained about them, if anyone hurt them, Kat would be there, and considering her kick-butt attitude, if anyone so much as looked at one of her brothers funny, they had better watch out. Kat started giving her a list of the hoaxes that her brothers had played against her. “First, Alex covered Jess in red paint, then ran in screaming that she had been attacked” (Jess, short for Jacinta, is Kat’s dog. She loves her more than anything else in the entire world) “Then Alex and Sam sent out a text to Max, saying that I loved him, and if he didn’t share my feelings, that I would commit suicide! Don’t even get me started on the brown stain-“She was cut off, as another girl ran up to them, her blonde hair bouncing crazily in its long pony-tail.

“KAT!” she screamed, tackling Kat to the ground. Kat let out a weird half shriek, half cat- being-pulled-down-a drain-by-its-tail sound, and pushed her attacker off her. Holly couldn’t help herself, she burst out laughing. Kat glared at her momentarily, before holding out her hand. Holly walked over, and pulled them both up, still laughing hysterically. Holly grinned at the blonde girl, as Kat punched her on the arm.

 “Seriously Hayley, could you be any more enthusiastic?” Holly questioned. Hayley, whose bright, bubbly nature sometimes got a LITTLE over the top, let out a high-pitched squeal, which probably broke all the nearby windows. As if hearing Holly’s thoughts, Kat put her hand to her ear,

“Did you hear that? That was the sound of about twenty windows simultaneously shattering.” Kat told them, grinning evilly. Holly laughed, and looked around.

“Now, we are missing the last piece to our random puzzle. Has anyone seen Maisy?” Kat shook her head, as did Hayley. Holly sighed. Even though Kat and Hayley were her best friends, she and Maisy had been besties since year 1, and she had always had a stronger bond with Maisy than anyone else. As if sensing her sadness, Hayley put her arm over Holly’s shoulders,

“Cheer up”, Hayley gave her an encouraging smile, “She might be already in the chapel.” Holly shook off her unhappiness, and grinned at the two girls,

“Race you to the chapel!” They took off, Holly quickly taking the lead, and Kat following behind her. Hayley trailed behind them both. When they reached the large double doors, where students were slowly filing in, they slowed to a walk. Holly grinned at Kat, “I bet you!” Kat gave her a look, and Holly laughed. She always had been the fastest, but when it came to long-distance, Kat would most likely beat her. The girls linked arms, and as Holly took a deep breath, they walked into the Chapel.
