Nate’s POV
Nate’s day hadn’t started off so good, but then it had gotten so much better. When he had first arrived at Greenwood, he had stared at the school, and thought, great, a fresh start. The first thing he did? Tripped on the first step. Lucky for him, he had fast reflexes, and managed to put his arm out before he could face plant. He quickly got up, and brushed himself off, quickly glancing around to check that no one had seen his little slip-up.
After he had managed to regain some of his composure, he walked up the stairs, carefully watching where he put his feet. He managed to make it all the way to the large, brick building (which he was pretty sure was a chapel) without any more mistakes. He caught up with his friends, Brad, Jack and Sky. They mucked around a bit, joking about how old-fashioned the school was, and how dastardly they expected the teachers to be. Nate was just about to suggest they go and wait in the chapel, when suddenly a piercing sound struck his ears. It stopped quite quickly, but it left his ears ringing. He glanced at his friends, mystified, and saw them all rubbing their ears, and looking around.
He shrugged, and told himself it was probably just an overenthusiastic year 7 girl trying to break every single window in the school. “We should probably head into the chapel now guys” he told his friends, and they all agreed. To be truthful, he was just afraid that his ears were going to get assaulted again.
Nate walked into the chapel, his friends all following along behind him. Not many others were in there yet, so there were plenty of seats to choose from. They boys grabbed four seats all in a row, and started rambling on about their holidays, and all the things they had gotten up to. Brad was telling them all about his holiday to Fiji, when suddenly Nate saw something out of the corner of his eye. He turned, and his eyes widened.
Three girls were entering the chapel, laughing and talking, but his eyes were only focused on one. She looked about his height, with long, chocolate brown hair, and eyes that were a couple shades darker. More like melted dark chocolate, then the milk chocolate colour of her long, flowing hair. She turned his way, to tell something to one of her friends, and her smile seemed to light up her entire face, making her eyes sparkle.
Nate realised that he was staring, and he also realised that his mouth was hanging open. He quickly shut it, and averted his eyes. He noticed Brad watching him, and smiled at him, before trying to shove the girl from his mind. He shook his head, and turned his attention to a man who had settled himself in front of the microphone. He did notice, however, that the girl and her friends (who had been joined by another brown-haired girl that they had caused some commotion trying to reach), had settled themselves in the pew opposite them, on the other side of the chapel. Frustrated with himself, for letting his thoughts stray, he focused his full attention onto the man this time.
Nate was sure that the man was Mr Campbells, the ‘Middle School Chaplain’, as his mother had informed him. She had also told him that he was a man to respect, and he intended to follow that advice. He didn’t feel like getting expelled on his first day of school. He sat still, and tried desperately to listen as Mr Campbells droned on, and on, and on. He was seriously considering taking his iPod out of his blazer pocket and playing flappy bird, but when he tried, Jack gave him a look, like if the rest of us have to go through this torture, you can to. So he just had to sit back, and try not to fall asleep, which Mr Campbells seemed to be trying very hard to make him do.
When he was finally finished, and the homeroom teachers stepped up to call out their classes, he sat up a bit straighter, and tried not to seem too excited. He was desperately hoping that he had at least one of his friends in his class. Last year, he had every single one of his friends, so this year, he was sure that he would run out of luck this year. His theory was proved right, when he got called for Ms Gambiol’s class, and none of his mates did. They bro-hugged, and then parted ways.
Nate was walking along behind the rest of his class, as they filed out of the chapel. He sighed to himself, well, you better start making some friends, unless you want to be the class loner for the rest of the year.
There were two girls walking in front of him, and they were going quite slowly. Nate had never been the most patient person, so he barged in between them. He kept on walking, then suddenly he heard the sound of footsteps. He started walking a bit faster, but was forced to stop when a hand grabbed the back of his jumper. He sighed, then turned around. He was quite shocked when he saw who had grabbed him.
It was the girl from the chapel, the one he had been staring at. He couldn’t believe that he hadn’t realised she was in his class. She was a little bit shorter than him, but still tall enough that she could glare straight into his eyes. He quickly put on his poker-face, “What do you think you’re doing exactly?” He made sure that his undertone was threatening, and was pleasantly surprised, when instead of backing away, it seemed to make the girl even angrier.
“I came to make you apologise for charging between me and my friend like that!” She told him, glaring defiantly. Nate sighed, and rolled his eyes, trying not to grin.
“I don’t feel the need to apologise. I was looking straight ahead at the path I was going to take. You two just happened to get in my way.” He saw the girl’s lips twitch, into a half-smile, that for some reason, made his heart beat a bit faster.
“I still haven’t heard a sorry” she responded, recovering her expression. He once more had to supress a grin, because he could hear a definite threat in the girl’s voice.
“Well, you’re not going to be hearing one anytime soon, so, I wouldn’t hold my breath if I was you!” Nate then turned, and started walking away, before the girl saw the grin that had spread across his face. He had taken quite a few steps, when he suddenly realised something. He quickly turned around, “By the way, I never caught your name.”
The girl stood there for a second, before replying, “The names Bennet, Holly Bennet.” Nate laughed, well, she’s heard of James Bond. He grinned at her,
“Mines Nate Léger.” He held out his hand for her to shake. Holly stood there for a bit, looking wary, before shaking his hand. Her hand was warm and soft. When she let go, his own hand felt really cold. He put it in his pocket, trying to warm it up again, but it didn’t quite feel the same.
“Nice to meet you, I suppose” she told him, before turning around and walking back to her friend. He stood there for a second, before turning around, and walking towards the class again.
As he was walking, he passed a group of guys standing there staring at him. Their eyes were wide in shock. He stopped, “What is it?” He asked them. One guy stepped forwards.
“Hey, I’m Branden, and I have been beaten up multiple times by Holly, because I might have accidentally insulted her. That girl has a temper fuse about as long as my pinkie finger!” He held up his hand, as if to prove that his pinkie was indeed a small finger. One of the other guys spoke up now,
“With the way you spoke to her, she should have slapped you all the way into next week! That girl is like a lion. Pleasant to look at, but dangerous to be near.” Nate grinned at this,
“Well, then I guess you guys can call me the Lion Tamer.” With that, he walked away.

Ok, cheesy/weird ending, I know and I'm sorry. I was suffering from a severe case of writers block when I wrote this chapter. It is a bit longer than the others though! Hope you guys enjoy it!
