High School Survival

Hey Guys, This is my first book and I haven't really edited it properly yet so there will be a few mistakes. I hope you enjoy it and feel free to comment! XDDD

Jennifer hesitantly walked over to John Parkens. The stares of her classmates painfully jabbed her in the back as she made forceful eye contact with John. John innocently stared at her until he realised they were being watched, his attitude immediately changed. ‘What do you want?’ he asked rudely.  Jennifer felt so embarrassed and was ashamed at how she replied, ‘Ummmm……. I……. ummmm…….’ Everyone in the room started laughing and John joined in later with a forced laughed. Suddenly John’s best friend, Xavier, stood up from his graffitied desk and looked Jennifer in the eye whilst saying ‘If you’re here to ask John to the formal then you better stop now before embarrassment really kicks in because never in a million years is he going to say yes to you darling.’ Xavier fell on the floor laughing whilst the other classmates joined in with him. John let out a cringed giggle and avoided eye contact with Jennifer. Instantly Jennifer’s cheeks turned red and all she wanted to do was run to the girl’s toilets and cry. She quickly handed the Geography sheets to John, as she was told to by Mr. Leouin and sat back in her seat. Jennifer knew that she shouldn’t be associating with John, as he was the most popular boy in school and she was just a book worm who read in the library during recess. She did find him amazingly attractive but she could never speak to him because she possessed an annoying flaw; she was immensely shy.

The bell rang and Jennifer collected her books and raced out the door with super speed. By the time she arrived at her locker the hallway was over crowed. In the corner of her eye she spotted Brittney; John’s super mean girlfriend. It was her final year of school and Britney was the most popular girl in school and tried to control everyone, even John. Brittney was Jennifer’s nemesis. As Jennifer was completely shy, she could never confidently stand up to Brittney; she’s adapted to the constant mistreatment from Brittney. Thankfully, Jennifer confides in her best friend Nikki. Jennifer and Nikki have known each other for numerous years and confess everything to each other.

‘Watcha staring at loser? I’m taken didn’t you know?’ Brittney yelled from the other side of the hallway. The whole hallway started cracking up and Jennifer ignored it whilst walking outside to meet Nikki in the library. Jennifer walked past the canteen and pushed open the fragile library door. She stopped in the narrow walkway and took a deep breath of her personal sanctuary; she loved the environment of being surrounded by books. She walked past the library desk and greeted Miss Jones. ‘Hello Jennifer, I have some news for you!’ Jennifer walked over to Miss Jones and was curious to know what she was about to hear. ‘Oh really?’ Jennifer replied with curiosity.

‘Yes, you have your very first student to tutor! I want you to start Wednesday’s during lunch and Thursday’s after school for however long John Parkens wants.’ Miss Jones sounded absolutely excited when she spilled the good news to Jennifer. Jennifer slightly paused and her curious expression changed to a horrified look. Jennifer began to open her mouth, ‘Um, Miss Jones I’m not really sure I want to tutor John!’ Miss Jones looked incredibly surprised with Jennifer’s actions and slightly confused with her answer. ‘Now Jennifer, we are counting on you. You are one of our highest achieving students and John needs help with maths if he wants to pass VCE. Please don’t let me down, I know you can help him.’ Miss Jones said with utter honesty. Jennifer was uncertain but knew she couldn’t let Miss Jones down. She was her favourite teacher and she had to do this for her. ‘Ok Miss Jones, I will tutor John, when do I start?’ Jennifer forcefully said. Miss Jones jumped in her seat with pure happiness, ‘Dear you start today at lunch, meet John in the tutor room and bring your math books as he might forget his. I knew you wouldn’t let me down.’ Suddenly the bell rang and Jennifer realised she had to tutor John after her class, the boy who she was humiliated in front of. She had so much to fill Nikki in on.

 

As soon the bell rang for recess Jennifer nervously raced to the tutor room and neatly placed her books on the table. As she just had maths she conveniently already had her books and didn’t have to run to her locker again. She rested her head in her palm and leaned on the table remembering the fact that she couldn’t concentrate it her previous class, due to knowing the events that were bound to occur. Jennifer shockingly snapped out of her day dream when she realised she was being greeted by John. Her shyness started to take control of her and she quickly said hi whilst anxiously flicking through her note book. John took a seat opposite her and began unpacking his books from his bags. He lazily opened his horribly kept exercise book to a fresh page and made strong eye contact with Jennifer. He realised that she was uncomfortable around him due to the events that occurred earlier so he quickly broke the silence by saying, ‘Hey Jen, I’m sorry about what happened this morning in class. Xavier was a total jerk.’ Jennifer froze at his kind apology and lifted her head to look back at him. She had never seen this side of John before and was truly mesmerised. ‘Oh, it’s ok, I’m used to it anyways, no big deal.’ John’s expression changed and he became tense and annoyed at the reply he heard from Jennifer. She was starting to feel awkward and quickly broke the awkwardness, ‘So we should probably get a start on something before lunch is over.’

 Jennifer grabbed a pen and explained what equations she was going to work on with John. They started on trigonometry. She explained the formula to him and insisted that he was capable of doing a few equations without her help. ‘John I want you to try and do these four problems by yourself and if you get stuck ask me, otherwise I will correct them once you’re done and we will see what you need to work.’ John nodded his head and began working on the four problems with severe concentration. Jennifer just waited, happily admiring his attractive face and how cute he looked whilst trying to concentrate during the completion of a maths problem.

Abruptly, the door to the tutor room slammed open and Brittney barged in. Her long blonde hair sat perfectly on her shoulders and her clothes hugged her tightly showing off her perfect figure. Jennifer and John looked up at Brittney in shock. ‘What are you doing with that loser?’ Brittney yelled at the top of her voice. She looked absolutely furious and her face was burning up. John began to speak, ‘Jennifer’s tutoring me for maths, and how did you know I was here?’ Brittney was staring at Jennifer and her expression was growing darker and darker every minute. ‘I asked Xavier, and why didn’t you tell me? I’m your girlfriend John. More importantly, why is this loser tutoring you?’ Brittney was raging like a bull, she was about to explode. John had a mortified look on his face and Jennifer knew, well the whole school knew that John and Brittney were having relationship troubles. ‘Brittney can we not do this here I would prefer if we could speak in private, plus I’m in the middle of a tutoring session!’ John said with annoyance in his tone. Jennifer was watching with dismay, was she really witnessing this. ‘No John, you have been avoiding me for this whole week and we haven’t spoken properly about anything, what is going on? Tell me!’ Brittney was almost at the point of breaking and was starting to look extremely upset. She knew what john was going to say next. John stood up from his chair and walked over to Brittney, ‘Look, we had a great time whilst we were together but I honestly think we should break up. To be honest, I’ve been thinking about it for a while now. I like someone else and if we continue this relationship, it will just be fake.’ Brittney was gobbed smacked and slapped John cold hard against his face. Tears rapidly started streaming down her sad face and she ran outside crying.

Jennifer sat in her seat absolutely astounded at what she just witnessed. She was the audience to the biggest brake up ever. Never in her wildest dreamers would she ever have thought she would have witnessed something so big and dramatic. John turned his face towards her and showed his relieved yet tired expression. John apologetically looked directly at Jennifer, ‘I’m so sorry you had to witness that!’ Jennifer was still shocked at what just happened in front of her very eyes. She quickly shook her head, ‘No, don’t be sorry, it’s alright. We can continue tomorrow lunch time if you want?’ John thankfully nodded his head and started collecting his math books. He swung his bag over his shoulder and quickly turned back to Jennifer, ‘See you tomorrow at lunch then!’
