Chapter 6: On the Edge

Another beautiful day in Sparks...is what anyone would have said if they did not have to venture into the forest at the crack of dawn.

Apparently, there have been some sightings of the same beast that wreaked havoc in town found in this very forest, terrorizing the hunters that provide various resources to the townspeople of Sparks. With Fairy Tail mages just close by the scene, Shin requested that they get rid of these beasts. Of course, they will be rewarded handsomely for this last minute request.

It was not about the reward that everyone was worried about. They have already received so much from the Firagua brothers as is. The real problem was the timing of this dire situation. First, the attack inside the town on the very same day they arrived. Actually, the more proper term would be the attack on Fairy Tail mages. Natsu's observations on the beast's behavior as well as the minimal damage to the town itself. At least, that was the most logical conclusion the team came up with during their search for the forest beast.

And let's not forget the current incident at hand. Now that the team stayed overnight in Sparks, of course there had to be some kind of problem in the morning they were supposed to be heading back to Magnolia.

Who knows? It was way too early in the morning to think about conspiracies against this town. One conspiracy coming after another, which just left everyone with a bunch of questions that were not even close to being answered. Overall, it was one giant headache.

"Aargh!" The raging roar of the fire dragon slayer scared the sleepiness right out of every single person around him.

Happy, as well as Romeo and Wendy all gasped with a surprise tone as they all instinctively backed away from the noise. Carla, who did not take this sudden noise very well, scowled as she flew away from the said dragon slayer. The low grumbling of her voice obviously showed how irritated she was. But her attitude could not compare to the blonde girl, who in fact stood closest Natsu.

Lucy grabbed his collar, bringing him up close to her glare. "Are you trying to attract every single species of this forest?!" She rocked Natsu back and forth by the collar.  

"Lucy is just as loud," Happy quietly pointed out, scared that the blonde might target him next.

"Lucy-nee," Romeo gripped onto the blonde girl's arm, which caught her by surprise. Looking down at Romeo and his pleading eyes, Lucy took a moment before releasing Natsu's shirt.

Lucy whispered an apology to him before walking off on her own. Natsu was about to run after her, but Happy flew right in front of him, thus preventing his friend from continuing any further.

Feeling the hem of his sleeve being tugged on from behind, Natsu looked over his shoulder to see Romeo staring straight into his eyes. The young boy then closed his eyes and shook his head. Moving his gaze back and forth—from Happy to Romeo and so on and so forth—before sighing. Pulling out his sleeve from Romeo's grip, Natsu turned around and walked past everyone.

"Well that could've gone better," Happy said, discouraged by the fact that his closest friends were fighting one another.
