I woke up to the sound of the moving truck outside, which had parked near our driveway, knocking over our trash cans. I looked at my phone it was 9:30 am and today was Tuesday. Moving day. I sat up in my bed and yawned I had really gotten the worst sleep. I kept tossing and turning, thinking about what the new house is going to be like. I haven't seen it yet, but dad has. It's a lot smaller than the one we have but we don't really need a big house, considering it's only me and dad. It's been like this for 3 years now and I can't believe that only now he has made the decision to pack up and leave. Leave everything and everyone that we know.
Mum is the reason we are moving, she died when I was only 11 (4 years ago.) I couldn't even bear to face the world when she died, I wouldn't talk to anyone and I would skip days of school just so I wouldn't have to face the sympathetic looks I get from everyone. Dads reaction was much worse though, he got diagnosed with depression, he didn't work for months. Aunt Claire had to come and support us while dad got treatment. He's a lot better now though I mean he still can't bear the thought of anyone bringing it up, but at least he is still working.
"Stephanie! Get down here now!" My dad yelled from the bottom of the stairs. I rolled my eyes and got out of bed, I put on my grey sweater, I don't want one of those creepy moving guys to be staring at me. I made my way down stairs and it was chaotic, the moving guys were in and out taking boxes and putting them in the truck, dad was trying his best to help out, but he kept getting in the way and stumbling over boxes. So he made his way into the kitchen and say down on the bench top. I waited for the moving guys to get out ids before I made my way over to dad. When I walked over to him if saw the age in his face, the wrinkles and the bags under his eyes. When he saw me though, he smiled he still has his dimples and shiny white teeth.
"Hi sweetheart, sleep well?" He patted the spot next to me, so I sat down.
"Not really" I shrugged.
"Don't worry, the knew place will be great it's a lot smaller, but the garden is huge and it's further in the country so we don't have to listen to the traffic."
I actually liked the idea of not being in the city, because even though I love to shop, I think it would be nice to get away from it, but I don't really want to move into the countryside.
"It's not that" I said "it's, well I don't know what the school will be like"
Dad looked down, and then back at me "Look, I know it's going to be hard starting at a brand new school with no one you know, but the school is great as I've told you they have a great field area, and a gymnasium and a theatre which is good for a school in the countryside"
I think dad realised by the look on my face that this wasn't exactly reassuring, but he before he could say anything else the moving guys came in
"that's the lot Frank" he said.
"Righto!" Dad chimed. "Come on sweetie, get dressed quickly and grab your bag, the guys will clear the stuff from your room and then we're ready to go!"
I quickly got upstairs and grabbed my clothes, I made my way to the bathroom and got changed quick. I really should have woken up earlier to have a shower, but I figured I would just have one in the new home.
Dad was really emotional when we were leaving, I think it was all the memories he had of mum and I could tell, when he got in the car that he had been crying.
The first hour of the drive was awkward, I don't think dad really knew what to say. I wish I had brought something better to do then just a magazine and my phone, because after the first hour and a half I was as bored as anything.
Dad started making small talk, asking what I wanted to do in the knew house, and what I wanted to do at school. I told him that I would maybe do acting at the school, but I didn't know what to say when he asked about the house.
