"Here are the latest reports." My boss said, throwing a bunch of papers onto my desk, which was already covered in pens, papers, and empty cups of coffee. "Sam, when did you get your last full 9 hrs of sleep?" He asked with a pityful face looking through the library I was working in.
"Naa I don't remember but I know I am close to sth."
My boss leaned next to the doorframe against the wall.
"Y'know we found out that theyd be meeting tonight at the bar next to the policestation, risky as hell." He awakened my interest.
"I really need to go there." I said in excitment, but the man just shook his head.
"Did you forget that you're an office worker?"
"Its my freetime" I interrupted
"Oh hell no" he almost shouted
"youre not going anywhere, we really need the analysis of those reports. Jack will go tonight, Ill accompany him. Youre either going to sleep or work at the office but under your sleeping conditions you would faint any second at the bar and we would totally fail the whole mission" I raised an eyebrow "thats not fair. I am the one who brought the project Vampire to life, I should be the one making research."
My boss just smirked and looked at me fiercely. "Dont worry we'll tell you how it was" without waiting for a response, he simply left the room and me behind. I couldnt decide wether I wanted to be angry or sad. My hands rolled into fists and punched all the papers from my desk.
After a few minutes I realized what I had done and knew that I had to collect back all the reports.
The reports were the long-term efficient part of the project. They show observations of different people which we believe to be vampires. But as we know little to nothing about these creatures, we can never be too sure that the victims of observation are really bloodsuckers. So theres are a lot of comparing, typing, and reading going on.
Not many people were involved in the project since we needed to be very careful when watching over people and dont want the citizens to find out about vampires, it would be a shame.
The strange thing was though, that we havent, even after 2 months of knowing that vampires existed, found a corpse.
I slowly stood up and started gathering every paper from the bottom. What a waste of time.. still, Pete, my boss was right, I should get some sleep. On the other hand though, it really stired me that others were going to the pub without me.
"Hell no youre not going" I imitaded my boss and did grimaces. I heard a chuckling coming from the door. Startled as I was, I turned around. "Oh Jack, its just you.. you scared me"
"Just wanted to tell you that boss and I get going, its already half past 11. And really dark outside, Alice has the keys, so make sure youll leave soon."
Then he noticed the papers. " got angry huh?"
I blushed a little "noooo I just created a wind swirly...thing when I opened a window."
He put me off "whatever.. see you tomorrow." Jack left me alone.
The boy was actually very smart even though he didnt seem like it at first. I sighed and looked around.
The room was adorned with two paintings. One was painted around 200 years ago, whilst the other one was part of the latest collection. Both of them were really pretty. I looked upon them and as I took a closer look, there was one person in each painting, who looked almost identical, call me crazy but it really looked like it. Mabye it was also just coincidence and they drew a Doppelgänger or in their own style, but this could be another hint. Or maybe I just interpreted too much and was tired from all this work.
