richie groaned in frustration when the annoying ring of his alarm pierced through his skull. the sound had been the same since he was in middle school, waking him up from a peaceful dream at disgustingly early hours of the morning; richie grew to hate the noise.
he reached over to slam his hand against the clock to stop the shrill sound. his brown eyes stared blankly up at the ceiling, slowly drifting across the patterns dented into the white plaster.
richie sighed before swinging his long legs over the side of his bed, bringing his hands up to rub away the sleep from his eyes. he hopped up and walked over to his closet to search for some clothes.
he finally decided on black skinny jeans and a navy blue hoodie. richie's style had changed drastically since middle school, and he couldn't help but cringe when he remembered his wacky hawaiin shirts.
once he was dressed, richie travelled into his bathroom. he stopped trying to comb his hair in the morning when it grew so curly it was almost impossible to tame.
he brushed his teeth and ran his long fingers through his hair in an attempt to smooth it down a bit. it didn't work and his raven hair stayed a mess on his head, causing richie to roll his eyes dramatically and groan at his reflection.
when he finished, richie raced down the stairs and slipped on his shoes before rushing out the door and proceeding to the side of his house to grab his bike.
he hastily pedalled in the direction of his best friend eddie kaspbrak's house, whom he hadn't seen in three weeks for an unknown reason.
once he reached his destination he let his bike drop onto the concrete below before jogging up the driveway to the door. richie balled his hand into a fist and lifted it to knock on the door.
he rocked back and forth on his heels, looking around at nothing patiently while waiting for the boy.
the sound of a door opening brought richie out of his daze as he looked over at the door but only saw a mop of messy brown hair. he moved his head down and his eyes landed on the tiny boy.
eddie looked exhausted, his face sickly pale and dark bags under his honey eyes. he was wearing a smooth red sweater and light grey sweatpants, his little feet covered by black converse which were similar to richie's own. his baby pink lips formed into a soft smile when he saw richie.
"eddie, you look like shit."
"hello to you, too, richie," eddie rolled his eyes before grabbing his backpack and stepping out the door.
"have you even slept?" richie asked with genuine concern as eddie brushed past him, walking to the side of his house to grab his bike. the taller boy followed close behind, staring down at him while waiting for an answer.
"yes, richie, i've slept." eddie replied in annoyance, picking up his bike and turning around to walk back to the front of his house.
"doesn't look like it. did your mum and i keep you awake last night?" eddie stopped in his tracks and span around with a sarcastic smile, flipping richie off before hopping onto his bike and positioning himself.
"are you coming, or are you just gonna stand there making immature jokes about my mother?" eddie asked, his voice holding no emotion.
