An amazing smell woke me from my deep slumber. And that smell was bacon.
But not just bacon, also pancakes, topped with fresh whipped cream, juicy strawberries and sweet blueberries. It was perfect. Well, as close to perfect as you could get when you've been kidnapped, but also on the run from the same place.
Yeah.
I agreed to stay here for awhile with Erebos. I just hope I made the right choice.
Erebos isn't like the others. Of course, considering his lengthy backstory, I guess it kinda makes sense.
"There's no one coming, Erebos." I mumble through a mouthful of pancakes.
Erebos, dressed in a grey, thin tshirt and white shorts, took one more good scan of the outside premises before pulling the curtain shut. He turned to me, "Yeah, well how do you know?"
I rolled my eyes and took another bite of bacon. "Because you checked three minutes ago."
"Yeah, well in three minutes, Marshall and his crazed gaurds could pull into the driveway, knock on the door, and shoot us down. So I think I'm going to keep my eyes on things until the heat dies down."
I rolled my eyes again and frowned, "They wouldn't shoot us down. And what 'heat'?"
Erebos pulled out the chair next to me and sat down, taking a sip of his coffee. "Remember when I told you that gossip spreads fast between the protectors?"
I nodded.
"Well, news got out that you got out, and so far the whole state, actually only those of the godly world, really, is buzzing about how one of the five is on the loose. And now there's an emergency alert going around with swarms of guards and protectors searching for you. So figure that."
I lifted my orange juice mug and sipped from it. "Mmm. Well that's not good."
Erebos nodded mockingly, "Yeah, that's not good at all. It won't be too soon until someone comes knocking on this door, and we will both be back in that prison of a safehouse."
I got up and placed my dishes in the old dishwasher, which probably didn't even work. "Well," I said, leaning back against the counter and watching Erebos finish off his coffee, "You're the one who took me away. You must have seen this coming."
"Yes, I suppose you're right. I guess we are just going to have to get disguised if I'm still going to take you out to town."
I jumped up on the balls of my feet, my eyes widening with excitement, "You're going to take me out! Good gods, finally!" I rocked back into my position from before, and asked, "Why do we need disguises? I don't think that anybody but the people from the safehouse know what we look like. Why can't we just go out the way we are?"
Erebos got up and placed his mug in the dishwasher next to mine. "We are genetically different from the regular protectors, but not just power-wise. There are differences in our appearances that are noticeable to the regulars and to the mortals. It's more, I guess I should say, shocking, to the mortals, though."
"What kinds of things?"
Erebos tilted his head to the side, and looked into my eyes, more like he was looking at them, actually. "Our eyes are the biggest giveaways."
I nodded and looked down at my feet. "Yeah, I guess they are kinda cool and swirly. But most of the time that doesn't draw my attention when I'm talking to you, Briseas, or Leora."
Erebos tensed up when I mentioned their names, but didn't say anything about them. I told myself that I would have to ask him about that later. He must have knew them from his time at the safehouse.
