Chapter 5: The Ball

Prince Charming

'You have got to be kidding me. Seriously dad...' For the last hour, I've been introduced to over 100 women who are obviously single. Way to make this weird. When I heard a ball was being thrown for me, I didn't think that I'd be doing this.

"Madam Daaé. Daughter of Monsieur Daaé." Ugh! How many more people... Miss Daaé walks slowly over and curtsies. I bow and she returns to her place among the other women in the crowd. I sigh in how disappointed I am with my father. I thought he would understand by now...

Music begins to play and I sigh. Here comes the dancing session of the ball; I guess I'm not going to eat tonight or anything else.

Over time, I get sick of the same songs playing (go to external link to play-list of songs) playing over and over; dancing with so many differen't women isn't helping either. I want to just drop dead right now or wait, even better... disappear... Like Cinderella so long ago...

Cinderella

The palace is... breathtaking... I can't believe this is happening. The carriage pulls up to the grand entrance of the palace and the footman opens the door. I put out my hand and he takes it, helping me down and out of the coach.

The ascend up the front steps takes almost an eternity; I then turn and smile to everybody. Godmother did the hand thingy that basically says 'Get going stup-id!'

I smile and turn to start walking again. As I walk through the front entrance, I marvel at the beauty of the Grand Staircase... (Titanic)

Ceremonial guards grace the marble floors and solid carved, oak finishes. As I walk, I can feel the eyes  of the guards wandering to my back as I look up at the glistening glass and cast iron dome. The light from the crystal chandelier danced on my forehead as I walk up the marble stairs; my shoes are clacking on them. There's a beautiful, carved, panel of oak with a clock built into it; as I get close, I see that it says 9:47 pm.

Once up the stairs, I can see the entrance of the Ballroom like a sore thumb, it sticks out that much. Besides that you can hear beautiful music, you can hear people dancing and see guards standing outside the entrance. I walk through the arch to the second floor of the ballroom.

White paneling, marble floors, golden lights, crystal chandeliers... and a huge crowd of men and women. The music stops and I can feel every face below looking up at me as I stand there. Nobody moves for what seems like hours until I see a man in a white suit start walking slowly towards the stairs that lead up to the balcony for which I stand.

I watch as he ascends the stairs. When he's in front of me, he bows and kisses my hand.

"May I have this dance?"  He asks sweetly.

I nod and take his arm when he offers it to me.

Once on the dance floor, the orchestra begins playing 'Wedding Dance.' It was so much fun, dancing with him. So much grace, so much beauty; everybody was watching us as we moved throughout the ballroom. Soon after what seems 5 minutes, we dance out into a beautiful garden... that... seems very... familiar.

Cinderella's Flashback

"Charming, can you do something for me?" I ask in a high voice. I look around and realize I'm sitting on some type of fountain in the huge and beautiful garden. I look to see myself wearing a small white laced dress with ruffles and a small, pink ribbon around my waist that are dancing in the slight breeze that blows through the garden. On my head, I realize I am wearing a laced hat with a small, pink rose; freshly picked from a near by rose bush.

"What Cinderella?" I hear the small boy across from me reply. He sits across from me on a white bench, watching me play with the small, yellow ducks behind me.

"Remember me." I say softly. I get up and start walking away. I can hear the pitter patting of his feat chasing after me but no matter how fast he runs, he can't reach me. I'm too far gone. I can hear the tears running down his face through his voice as he calls my name repeatedly. I never looks back... I never did...

Prince Charming

"Are you okay?" The woman looks as if she's seen a ghost.

"Hmm? Oh. I'm sorry. It's just..." She stops dead as we come across the fountain in the middle of the garden. A family of ducks swim slowly in the water.

"Just what?" I ask confused.

She is still frozen in her foot steps. "This... garden..."

"What about it?"

"I... can see it. I can see... a little boy... and a little girl. Little yellow..." I interrupt her slightly.

"Ducks?" I say while turning my head towards her.

Before she can answer, the clock tower starts ringing for it was midnight. She jumps in the sound and looks towards it.

"It's midnight." She says in surprise.

"Yes, so what?" To many questions and not enough answers. Is this who I think it is?

"I have to go." She says starting to run away. I grab her arm lightly.

"Don't go." She turns and tries to push my hand off her arm.

"Please! Let me go!" She cries. Why is she freaking out?

"No. Why do you have to go? I have so many questions..." She continues trying to break free from my grasp but I don't let go.

"Let me go! I can't stay!" She screams; I can hear the foot steps of people coming out here because of the commotion.

"Why?" I ask loudly. I can see guards coming out along with some of the guest.

"Let- me- go!" That's when I feel a blow to my face and hear the clock stop. It's now 12:01 am.

People gasp at the sight and I do too. I don't know if it was the punch in the nose... or the fact... that this beautiful woman... turned into a girl in a torn up dress with bruises all over. She backs up... and starts running away, crying. I chase after her yelling aloud, reaching for her...

"Cinderella..."
