My feet start to get sore from riding my bike after another 10 minutes. I see the familiar street sign that reads Kingston Drive and I turn right. In Jack's driveway, I get off my bike and knock on the door. As I wait, I balance on my feet. I'm looking down at my shoes that are covered in blue spray-paint when the door swings open.
"Who are you?" Jack questions cautiously. I look up and pull my hood down, revealing my face. Jack is wearing jeans and no T-shirt, abs showing.
"Olivia?", he says, bewildered, "what are you doing here? And why are you wearing all black?". I tell him what I did and bite my lip, looking down. He puts his hand under my chin and makes me look at him.
"Liv, why did you do this?" he asks me softly. I feel my eyes fill with tears.
"She was making me choose between my friends and you" I say, and the tears fall quickly. Jack pulls me into a tight hug and I bury my face is his shoulder. I hear a noise and look up. In the foyer, Jack's dad is watching us with sad eyes. For some reason that just makes me cry harder. When the tears subside, I wipe my eyes with the sleeve of my hoodie.
Jack looks at me, concerned.
"You look tired" he says. I laugh and nod.
"Yeah, I biked here" I say. Jack smiles encouragingly.
"It's getting pretty late. Cam will be wondering where I am" I start to turn around but Jack's dad speaks up.
"Maybe you could stay over, just for tonight" he suggests. Surprised, I look at Jack, who is equally surprised. He nods at me.
"That's very nice of you to let me stay over", I tell his dad sweetly, "I appreciate it Mr. Simpson". He shrugs and smiles.
"You can call me Mike, and it's my pleasure. My wife might disagree, but she's out on business right now, so she doesn't have to know" he winks at me. I smile. Inside the house, I text Cam and tell him I'll be back early tomorrow morning. He replies and says its okay. Jack's dad is just about to disappear around the corner when he stops.
"And by the way, you can sleep up in Jack's room as long as there's no funny business going on, okay?" he asks us. Jack and I look at each other, laugh, then nod. Mike smiles and leaves the foyer. I turn to Jack.
"Should we go?" he asks me. I nod.
We climb the stairs up to his room. He pushes the door open and switches the light on. The walls are blue and hockey trophies and medals line a shelf above his bed. A sliding door leads into an ensuite bathroom. I nod.
"You have such a boy's room" I say. He laughs.
"And you have such a girl's room, if we're pointing out the most obvious things" he chuckles. I smile.
"Your shirt is covered in paint. Wanna borrow one of mine?" he asks. I yawn.
"That would be great, thanks" I say sweetly. He slides a drawer open and pulls out a gray American Eagle T-shirt and tosses it to me.
"Thanks" I smile and go into the bathroom to put it on. I take off my dirty shirt and slip the clean one over my head. The smell of Jack surrounds me. I look in the mirror and notice how messy my hair looks. I pull it out of the ponytail and let it hang down around my face. I come out if the bathroom in Jack's shirt and pantless, since the shirt goes down to my mid thigh. I seriously hope that my blue penguin boxers aren't visible. Jack has also put a shirt on. He grabs his phone off of the bedside table and turns it on. I take my phone out from my pile of clothes and check my notifications. There's a bunch of texts from Anna, and also one from a very surprising person: Amanda. How the hell did she even get my number?! Confused, I sit down on the queen-sized bed and enter my passcode.
