Walking in the woods always calmed me. The fact that I'm dragging a dead body should be irrelevant.
How did I even end up in this position? Everything happened so fast. It's almost hard to even think straight at the moment much less remember what the heck brought me to the woods with a dead dude.
Come on think..... okay. I think I can remember.
************flashback****************
It was a completely normal day at school. For the most part my classes were boring but as always my English class brightened my day. My teacher Mr. Senchi was the highlight of my high school experience.Everyday he would start the class by simply giving us a random bit of the past. He would read a chunk of a story from any time period he could get his hands on. It really made me fall in love with all sorts of mythology. Especially Greek, Roman, and Egyptian. He really loved to encourage me to read and write to my hearts content. His class soon became my favorite and I always looked forward to the next days story.
Today was no different. I walked into his fifth hour English class and attentively listened to his dramatic retelling of the porter scene from Macbeth. The entire class was laughing hysterically. That's what we all loved about Mr. Senchi. He joked around with us and really made English fun.
After our daily story time we jumped into today's class. We were working on our poetry unit and today we focused on writing about a painful or tragic event in our past. Oh boy did I have a lot of that. I couldn't decide what to write about. My parents abandoning me before I could walk? No maybe not that. I couldn't even remember most of that seeing as I was a baby. What else then? Perhaps growing up in the foster care system? Nah to boring. I could talk about how I've had to constantly move my entire life because every time I'm in a decent foster home I mess it up somehow. Yeah that could work. What number am I on now? Home number 22? More? All I know is that I've moved to so many different homes that I've lost count. I've had to say goodbye to so many friends and schools that at this point I'm scared to be close to anyone. I'll just move soon anyway.
But hopefully not this time. As a law abiding 16 year old I should be able to keep myself out of trouble. All the other times weren't my fault. Bad luck just seems to follow me. Wrong place, wrong time is the story of my life. But fingers crossed. Because for once, in this small town, living with Mr. and Mrs. Maxwell I finally feel like I'm home...... About time.
Anyway we spent that class writing our poems and then went to lunch. As I walked to the table I saw my two friends Luca and Ruby. I have only known them for the few months I've been here but I really love them both. They soon became my best friends and I couldn't imagine life here without them.
Luca's eyes met mine and he smiled and waved me over.
"IRIS LOOK THEY HAVE CHICKEN NUGGETS IN THE SHAPE OF DINOSAURS!"
Ruby rolled her eyes. "Luca, for once in your life you could actually act like a mature 16 year old?"
Ruby likes to tease Luca for being childish but we all know that his bright and cheerful personality was what made us all love him dearly. And his innocence is an adorable trait that you don't see much in the world today.
"Awe come on Ruby, let Luca have some fun. Plus we all remember how excited you got when incredibles two came out. We're all allowed to act childish from time to time."
She rolled her eyes and then trained them on me. I always found people's eyes interesting. No two eye colors are the same. And u can see a lot by the look someone has in their eyes, or the bags underneath. Ruby's eyes were a dull green which always reminded me of the willow tree I used to sit by at one of my old foster homes. But that's not important.
