“They walked through the thick forest as they headed towards South Georgia to find their father, step mom, and little brother. They’ve spent most of the last week walking; barely ever stopping. When they did it was for food and water, sometimes slept. Sleep never came easy for them, and with the world they were in now, it may never come easy again. Their bodies were aching so bad, walking was starting to get harder and harder as the day went on.
‘How much longer do we have until we find dad?’ Alex, the younger one of the two siblings asked. Alex was so different from his older sister. He was the polite, caring, quiet one. Avery, she was the opposite. She was harsh with words, never showed her feelings, and spent most of the day glaring at everything in her line of vision. Their faces resembled one another, same sharp features, both had black hair. The major difference was that Avery’s’ eyes changed colors, always depending on her mood. Though since she was fifteen, her eyes were grey, stone-cold piercing grey. No one has been able to change them in the slightest, maybe no one ever would. Alex's’ eyes were a beautiful green-blue shade that would catch everyone’s eyes.
‘We gots a long way lil’ bro.” Avery replied shortly. Avery spotted a squirrel climbing its way up the tree. She nudged Alex’s’ arm and pointed. He silently nodded his head and loaded his bow. An arrow pierced the squirrels’ head, but they weren’t the same colored feathers as Alex’s’ arrows. Avery thought maybe he picked up an arrow without her noticing. She quickly made her way over towards the squirrel that was still attached to the tree.
‘What the fuck?’ Avery muttered. She reached for the squirrel but heard the familiar sound of the cocking of a gun. She spun, pulling her gun and cocking it all in one motion, meeting a crossbow in her face with piercing blue eyes digging into her. She looked past the man with the crossbow to see a gun in Alex’s’ face, but Alex had his bow drew with an arrow ready to fire at any moment.
‘Who the fuck are ye?” She questioned the man behind the crossbow. His features were sharp. He had piercing blue eyes, short dirty-blonde hair, and a slight muscular build. He stood about five foot-ten inches, just two inches taller than her. She also noticed a mole barely hidden under his mustache on the left side of his upper lip. His facial hair was simple, yet suited him so well. He had a mustache and a goatee that met his small beard that only sat on his chin.
‘Could ask ye the same thin’. Yer name?’ Crossbow man asked.
‘Ain’t none of ye damn business.’ She gritted through her teeth. She didn’t want nothing more than to just get through this forest to her dad.
‘You look awful familiar there cutie.’ The man holding a gun to her little brother stated. ‘What’s your name?’ The man asked Alex.
‘Keep yer mouth shut.’ Avery demanded her brother. The man holding the gun lowered his gun, uncocking it. Alex shortly followed the gesture and lowered his bow and arrow. ‘The fuck ye doin’ Alex?!’ Avery screamed forgetting about the fact she wasn’t going to tell them their names.
‘Ah. Your name is Alex, huh? My name’s Merle. That’s my little brother Daryl. Hey, baby brother, get that outta cuties face, huh?” Merle introduced them. Daryl slowly lowered his crossbow. Avery put her gun away and went to pick up the squirrel.
‘Tha’ ain’t yers. Don’t touch it.’ Daryl told Avery and went to snatch it out of her hands but she moved too quickly. ‘Bitch! Gimme my squirrel!’ Daryl screamed at her.
‘Ye best watch yer mouth talkin’ to my sista like tha’. It looks like yer got enough squirrels on yer back to feed a small village. Ye got a group ‘round ‘ere?’ Alexs’ thick southern accent spoke up for the first time.
