I crept around the house, hand brushing the dagger that I had concealed on my hip. One of the windows had its curtains drawn, with the lights turned on in the room beyond. I could see a figure through the curtains, pacing back and forth. My target.
Gene Waymaker, an elven noble who sent a spy to The Fells. I've been ordered to find him, and get answers any way possible on why.
I've been scoping him out for close to a week now, observing when he is alone and where he normally goes during the day, consisting of business meetings, parties, and visits to the palace. Right now, he is supposed to leave for a party in a matter of minutes, where I planned on capturing him before he enters, since I couldn't harm him in his home when the servants roam about. It would be problematic if I was caught in the act. And time-consuming since I couldn't speak.
I doubted Waymaker brought guards along with him, since he earned his name from his experience with weaponry and seemed very cocky about that fact.
The figure stopped pacing, seemingly walking out of the room. He must be leaving, then. I strode away to the street, taking up a spot on a bench and waited.

"Vencan. Follow." A noble's voice echoed around the empty hallway that I had been walking down. I turned, and bowed deeply before following after him.
He led me through the halls, which were getting more extravagant as we went on, ending on the royal's hallway, which held the king and all of his family's rooms, only two being occupied by the king himself and his pregnant wife in one while the newly returned Prince Theodore occupied the other. The noble led me into that room, where the king was in his bed, face white as chalk. His son and wife sat at his bedside. I struggled to not run over to him, just clenched my jaw and looked at the noble. "Heal him, fool." He shoved me forward, and I didn't hesitate to walk the rest of the way.
Reaching out my hand to touch him, I was stopped. The king had grabbed my wrist, holding it back. I furrowed my brows and looked over to him. "Don't. It's too late for me, Ayla." I flinched when he called me by my first name. "You're young, and don't have to waste your life on mine. I've hurt too many people. It's about time I repay them all." He smiled weakly before looking to his son. "A war is coming, my son. I'm sorry that I couldn't be a better father to you or your sister. Find a way to stop it. Once I die, Ordan might attack, since you are so young. Do what I didn't. Find love. Even in the midst of battle." He smiled again, his eyes glazing over. "My Queen, please stay safe when that happens. I do not wish for my second son to die along with you." I ground my teeth and tried to heal him once again, but was stopped. The king looked back over to me. "I, King Gregory of The Fells, set the elf, Ayla Vencan of Jonah's Peak, free from my enslavement." I froze, staring at the dying man in amazement. My mind was blank, other than a few doubts that swirled around it.
I hadn't been allowed to speak before. But, if I was really free... I could do whatever I wished. Bending my wrist so I could touch his pulse, I closed my eyes and looked into his bloodstream, which was tainted with the sickness. His heart was stuttering, barely even beating. Before long, he'll be dead.
I opened my eyes, looking at his skin, which got deathly pale as he died. Even in death, a smile was plastered happily on his face.
"Is... is he dead..?" The new king stared at his dead father. I backed away from the bed, blinking away tears. "Yes." My voice was hoarse from disuse. It didn't feel right whatsoever.

Thank you for coming back for the second book!
I'll explain how Theodore returned now.
So Hanj, Feiye's cousin, is also a royal, so he can heal with his blood as well.
He had healed Theodore completely, and returned him to The Fells shortly after Feiye had been sent off to Ordan.
Anyways, remember to vote and comment if you liked it!
