"This is what it felt like to have a broken heart. It felt less like a cracking down the middle and more like she had swallowed it whole and it sat bruised and bleeding in the pit of her stomach."

EVER FELT THATSNAP, the one where you're fine one second, you feel like nothing could bring you down. You're content with everything and anything in life.
And then something happens.
Snap.
You're mood spirals down a dark path and then you find yourself sitting in an empty bathtub with a blanket, crying with a tub of ice-cream in your lap as you think through everything that went wrong.
Maybe if your emotions were heightened like a vampires', you'd find yourself punching the mirror and sobbing before finding yourself in that bathtub mentioned earlier. Or maybe, you'd drive your car saying you're meeting up with an old friend and then park up at god knows where and cry.
That was how she felt.

Madeline Gilbert sighed as she packed her last box, stacking it with the others before staring at herself in the mirror. It was funny, she thought. She seemed paler, her eyes were slightly darker than she remembered them to be and her hair was awfully greasy— the unfortunate consequence of not washing it for the two days she was packing.
She remembered being able to push her feelings beneath her, the walking corpse with nothing but a bitchy attitude, rude and sarcastic comments and a lot of swearing. But she couldn't seem to do that now, not without turning it off which was not an option.
Maddie hadn't seen Elena or Damon since Klaus had locked her up in her designated cell— room. Jeremy, Caroline and Bonnie had packed her stuff and brought them over, Matt visited with a few books, in hopes the pages of a different world would help keep her company. Tyler smuggled her alcohol whenever he wasn't on his revenge mission. Rebekah and even Kol helped kept her distracted.
As much of an asshole as Kol was, he was one of her closest friends and companions. After Caroline, of course.
Maddie tried to convince herself it was for the better that Elena and Damon didn't come to see her. She tried to get it through her head that they were just waiting for the right moment. That they were just in denial almost as much as she, herself, was. But even if she told herself this over and over a million times, she knew in her gut that they weren't coming.
She knew they didn't want to see her.
Caroline, Bonnie, Jeremy and Matt were taking her out for dinner. It was her last day in Mystic Falls, she left the next day at 3pm for her flight.
