It felt like a dream. A confusing, unrealistic dream. The cabins stood derelict, where they had always been. The dropship still towered over the camp. Clarke and a few others had finally managed to get their people back to their original camp, and Clarke felt at home for the first time since she left. It had been five days since she had seen Bellamy. In that time, Aurora had not left her side. If anyone besides her was holding Aurora, Clarke was always beside them. She wouldn't let the infant out of her sight.
Abby and Samantha set to work getting the injured and sick into the dropship. Clarke decided the old ship would be used as the new hospital since there was more room, and it was warmer than the old wooden hut. Clarke bounced Aurora in her arms as she stood in the middle of camp, instructing people as to what went where. She tried hard to keep focused on her task, but her mind kept drifting back to Bellamy. Had they made it out? Were they hurt? Were they even alive still? Aurora had been unsettled and fussy since they left Arkadia and Clarke knew it was because she could sense Bellamy wasn't with them. She missed her father.
"Clarke!" Abby said sharply.
"Huh?" Clarke grunted, looking up at her mothers face.
"Did you even hear a word I said?" Abby asked.
Clarke shook her head in embarrassment. She hadn't even realised her mother was standing next to her.
"I was just coming to see if you wanted to take a break. Samantha is dealing with the patients who are awake, I can take Aurora for a bit while you rest?" Abby said with a small smile.
"No. I'm fine." Clarke said quickly. She pulled Aurora closer to her chest defensively.
"Clarke, I know you don't want to leave her, but you're no good to her if you run yourself into the ground. You need to rest." Abby said softly. She was growing more and more concerned for her daughters health. Clarke hardly slept, and she hadn't eaten since yesterday morning.
"I can't. I can't rest until I know he's safe." Clarke whispered, staring at the gate. She never should have left him.
"He's strong, and he's determined. Bellamy will be fine." Abby sighed. "He knows you're both waiting for him."
"What if something happens to him?" Clarke said as tears pooled in her eyes.
"He will be fine, Clarke. He's a fighter." Abby smiled.
"If he's not back in two days, then I'm going back for him." Clarke said determinedly.
"And what about her. You're going to take her back to Arkadia?" Abby said, pointing to Aurora.
Clarke looked down at her daughter. She wouldn't put her baby in danger. But her heart couldn't take the pain of not knowing if Bellamy was alive or dead. Clarke wasn't usually one to sit on the sidelines and wait. She was used to being upfront and centre when things like this happened. As soon as they set foot in camp, she had automatically fallen into the role of camp leader since Jaha was still in Arkadia, helping to get those on the battlefield to safety. But things were much harder with a baby. Clarke couldn't put her own needs or wants first anymore. She had to think about Aurora's safety first. All she could do now was wait for Bellamy and the others to return.
"I guess you're right." Clarke sighed. "As soon as we're finished here, I'll get some rest."
Abby gave Clarke a sympathetic smile and rubbed her arm before heading back to the dropship. Clarke was beginning to get sick of the sympathy looks now. She appreciated the concern of her loved ones, but she didn't need sympathy or for them to be concerned about her. She just needed people to understand. She may not have had the easiest or smoothest relationship with Bellamy, but she loved him with everything she had. She needed him. It wasn't just a case of her needing him to help lead the camp. Now Clarke needed Bellamy because he gave her the strength she needed to carry on. He understood her when no one else did. Bellamy always put her needs before his own. Her safety was his priority. That often meant talking her out of stupid decisions even if it meant they would fight. Clarke needed Bellamy, even more so now they had Aurora.
