Detective Anderson's office was small and almost every inch was covered with stacks of files. It took him a moment to shift some stacks so I could find a place to sit.

Finally situated, Detective Anderson offered me some coffee. "How are you Mr. Emerson? Sleeping any? What brings you by today?"

I was definitely sleep deprived. "Yeah, I am fine. I came to show you something I think it will be very important in the case."

"It's hardly a case Mr. Emerson. Mr. Luther has pled guilty. We have his confession on tape and in writing. Even if he tried to change course now it wouldn't have any traction. Once he is before the judge this will be over. We have a 6 X 8 ready with his name on it." I had already been told this. There would be no drawn out trial because Eric had confessed. He hadn't really confessed as much as he had been caught red handed. After that he didn't really have a choice but to fess up for what he had done.

Eric had sent an email to his hunting buddy, bragging about killing Jess. Josh Myers was a weasel. He had been kicked out of school for fighting. He had cussed out about every teacher he had. His only friend had been Eric. They were perfect for each other.

Josh would have gladly kept his secret but Dave, his brother, had saw the message. Fortunately, Dave, unlike his brother, had a conscience. Josh had not realized his messages went onto the Ipad as well. Dave typically ignored Josh's texts as they were usually about hunting, NASCAR, or women, which he knew nothing about. But this particular text caught his eye because it mentioned death.

Dude, I did it! I ended her. She deserved it. She didn't think I would mess with her up but she was so wrong. I told her she should have never treated me like dirt. I told her I would get what I wanted in the end. Now, she is just laying there lifeless, man. It's surreal. This was better than any hunting we have done Josh! My biggest kill yet! Delete this after you read it so there is no evidence. These Haiti police wont figure it out. They will think it was one of theirs who did it. Man, I am jacked!

When Dave read it he acted quickly, calling the police and making Josh read the text to them. He didn't want Josh to be an accessory. Josh deserved it but Dave was going to protect him.

Eric didn't get off the plane before he was in handcuffs. So yes, he pleaded guilty but not out of remorse but because he had been caught.

Anderson was tapping his pen on the desk as a sign for me that he had better things to do right now.

"Yes, I get that he has confessed but some of what he has confessed to is untrue." Anderson stopped the tapping.

"What do you mean?" he asked as I handed him Jess' journal.

"It is all here in her journal. How come you guys never came and asked for things like this? It should be evidence."

Anderson sighed, "Like I said before Mr. Emerson, there is no case because the cased is closed. You should be glad for this. Believe me, most don't get so lucky as you. Sometimes the murderer is never found or there is not enough evidence to convict. You don't want to go through that. It is a nightmare."
