Alex P.O.V
I landed in Melbourne and looked around. "So beautiful," I thought. I walked out the airport after I got my luggage and ran to the bus stop. My teacher assigned me a home that he rented out.
"It's a beautiful home. And the neighbors are really nice," he said. "You'll love it." This should be a good trip. I rolled my eyes. I didn't come here to make any friends. I came to explore and sight see. After a 15 minute bus ride, I arrived at the house.
"Wow, he was right. It is beautiful," I said to myself.
"Hello!" I heard a voice and turned around. A woman around her 50's walked up to me.
"Hi!" I said back.
"You must be Alex! A traveling student. We have plenty of those coming and going. Mr. Wright said you would arrive at this time. That old man is always right."
"Yeah, he's pretty intelligent for a 70 year old." I giggled.
"Oh silly me, my names Kelly!"
"Nice to meet you." I shook her hand.
"Okay, since you're staying here for awhile, I should warn you about the family across the street." I looked across & nodded.
"What about them?" I asked
"Oh they are a handful! It's a mother with three boys and I've always had trouble with them."
"How old are the boys?"
"She has a set of twins around your age and the oldest a little ways older than that." I nodded still looking at the brick house. Then decided to change the subject.
"So uh, is there any jobs I can get around here?"
"I know Big Al is hiring. It's a small grocery store that's walking distance. Just go up take a left, and you're right there. He gives jobs to anyone, trust me I'd know," she said looking at the house across the street.
"Thank you," I said "and nice meeting you!" I walked off to Big Al's.
It was about a 3 minute walk then I arrived. I was wearing jeans and a black and grey flannel, with my grey camie showing. I took a deep breath and walked in.
"Excuse me." I said as a big man turned around.
"How can I help you," his accent was strong.
"I'm Alex , a student traveling the world and I'm staying here for awhile so-(gets cut off)"
"So you need a job?"
"Exactly."
"Just a sec. Oiy! Luke, Kelly sent another American student. Fetch me a job application would ya?" I heard a voice scream back.
"Yeah." You could tell it was a young boy. He walked up to hand Big Al the application. Then Big Al ripped it up with excitement. I gave him a puzzles look.
"You're hired." He said. I smiled with joy then looked at Luke to introduce myself. He didn't seem okay with it. He looked me up and down then rolled his eyes. I saw this as an opportunity to be a bitch so I gave him a smirk. He just laughed.
"Show her how to do stuff Luke. Then Alex you can start tomorrow. Luke guided me to the back of the store.
"I'm not actually going to show you anything you know?"
"I figured," I said in an annoyed voice. "Question for you Luke."
"What?"
"Why are you hating the fact that I'm working with you?"
"I don't know. It's just Americans come all the fucking time. And you're all lazy."
"I'm not." He gave a little "yeah, right" laugh.
The day went by of Luke pretending to show me stuff until I finally decided to walk home. When I got there I decided to unpack all my stuff. Then I ordered pizza, watched TV and went to sleep. This next day of work should be flattering.
