"Goodbye!" Speckletail yowled after the cats leaving the clearing at sunningrocks.
It took a moment to process in their minds that this territory no longer belonged to any clan.
If the clans were still here, speckletail and frostfur would not be allowed on this piece of territory, for it belonged to riverclan.
Loudbelly and shadepelt would though, since they did belong to riverclan.
Loudbelly and shadepelt stood over their former medicine cat's grave.
Mudfur had just died at sunhigh, and his death had marked the time of change, so that the clans could leave the forest in search of a new home.
Frostfur stared at the path that the clans had taken, she seemed shaken, unable to process the fact that the four of them were all alone now.
But they'd done this for a reason, so they could die under the stars, the tiny specks in the sky that each represented one of their warrior ancestors, and soon they would join them.
"Frostfur, its going to be alright.. we can survive out here, i know it."
Frostfur looked down at the soft ground beneath her white paws.
"I hope so.. i just wish i could go with them. I may be old, but my paws still work!"
Frostfur sighed and got up, padding to where loudbelly and shadepelt sat, beside the river.
The three of them watched the water flow down.
"We need to see what we can use for shelter, its already sunset." Speckletail told the three of them.
"I think leafpool and cinderpelt left their den behind for us. Lets go see." Shadepelt got up and padded toward the forest.
Thunderclan had taken refuge beside sunningrocks when their camp was destroyed by twoleg monsters, and now all that was left of their refuge camp were the medicine cat den, and a few loose pieces of bracken and bramble.
Frostfur, loudbelly, and speckletail followed shadepelt into the medicine cats den.
It was small, but bigger then what the other dens had been before they were taken down.
"Help me make this bigger, ill push at the walls, speckletail, you add more branches to it once ive dented it in."
Loudbelly started to push at the wall, streching it out.
Speckletail padded out and grabbed a pine branch off the ground, dragging it over to the den.
After the wall was streched out to its limit, speckletail used the branch to steady it, and make sure the den wouldnt collapse.
Then, the four cats went inside of the den, making sure they could all fit. And it had worked, they'd successfully expanded the former medicine cats den.
"Im hungry.." loudbelly murmered. "Well.. we could try to hunt."
Frostfur suggested. Are we going to starve?
Speckletail remembered how in the last few days of thunderclan living here, prey had been so hard to find that two of fernclouds kits had died of starvation, and everyone had been living on one bite of prey every night, exept for the elders and kits, who had gotten as much as they could find.
"Its going to be hard.. if an entire clan couldnt catch enough prey to feed 4 cats, what will we do?" Shadepelt stated firmly.
"Well, we have to try or else we'll starve."
Speckletail got up from her spot in the den and padded out, her jaws open for scents of prey.
She padded into the forest, looking for even the smallest prey scent.
Nothing. As speckletail had expected, she scented nothing.
We have to try. What kind of cats would we be to sit here and starve? Thats not what an honourable clan cat would do... But then speckletail realized. We are nothing but rogues. Refugees of the wreak that is the old forest. We gave up our positions in our clans to stay under starclans sight..
Speckletail stopped looking for prey and went back to the bay where the three cats sat, sharing tongues.
"I found no prey in the forest at first glance, loudbelly, shadepelt, do you think there would be any fish in the river?" Speckletail regained some hope.
The river was always so full of life, life that kept riverclan well fed and happy even during the hardest times, it just seemed so reliable.
"Loudbelly, you said your paws were aching earlier, so i'll go and look for fish, you stay here." Shadepelt decided.
"I can come with you too. You can teach me how to fish." Frostfur volunteered.
Its okay. We'll be fine. Frostfur and shadepelt are reliable cats.
Speckletail decided to join loudbelly inside the den, where he peacefully dozed in the thick moss.
She padded inside, taking a spot beside him to sit down, and began cleaning herself.

"SPECKLETAIL! LOUDBELLY! I- HELP ME!-"
Speckletail was roused by the sound of shadepelt calling her. She shook loudbelly awake then got up and ran toward the riverbank.
In front of her she watched as shadepelt struggled to pull frostfur to shore, she fought against the strong currents, but clearly did not know how to swim.
"Speckletail! Help me save her!" Shadepelt yowled.
Speckletail ran toward the two strained cats and tried to reach down to grab frostfur by the scruff, but she couldnt reach far enough.
"Frostfur, hang in there, ill get loudbelly!" Shadepelt mewed, getting up and walking back to the den.
Frostfur continued to fight against the raging currents, and every moment that her head was sucked underwater, speckletail feared the worst.
"Just a bit further, its going to be okay." Speckletail reassured her.
"No! I can't. I can't do this! Theres no use.." frostfur hissed.
Speckletail watched as she got dragged further down the river, trying to follow her.
"Im sorry frostfur. Im sorry i couldnt save you..." she paused, thinking. "When you're in starclan.. remind my family of how much i love them.."
"I will." Frostfur mewed, letting go of the rocks she had used for grip, and letting herself float away, her head underwater.
"Goodbye, frostfur." Speckletail choked out.

"I'm sorry i wasn't good enough."
