"I can see it in your eyes."

I ignored the voice, continuing to shove the necessities in a bag. I couldn't tell him what was wrong.

"I... I just can't be here anymore." I slammed the drawer shut, shuffling across the room. The bright-eyed man's face fell.

"What... what did I do? What could have possibly brought you to this - brought us to this?"

My face turned towards the man once again, empathy trying to fall into my expression, but my knowledge of what was to come keeping it at bay.

"I told you Daniel, I can't be here!" It took all my might to look him dead in the eyes. "I don't want to be here. I don't want to be with you. I don't love you."

Daniel turned around and swept the lamp off the nightstand. "Why can't you tell me damnit!"

"Goodbye, Daniel." I closed the bag on the bed, giving him one last look before exiting the room. I found it ironic, walking down that hallway. The hallway I had fallen in love in, the hallway I had been kissed in for the first time, the hallway where my life had been changed forever. And now, it was time to say goodbye.

I allowed a single tear to escape me before slipping out the doors of the castle hall. I couldn't look back, or else I would run back into Daniel's arms, apologizing and telling him everything was okay. I had been through worse, dealt with more deadly circumstances, and now it was time to save my country. It was time to save myself.
