From the moment I met Chloe, I knew that she was different. Just like me. And for the first time in my life, I was more than just Alex Scheele, the weird, timid girl that no one understood. I wasn't alone anymore.

Chloe was new in town. We became friends, faster than you can say the word friendship. She was so cool and adventurous and she did not give a damn about anyone's opinion. Also, she was into Nirvana and David Bowie, which was a big plus.

One day, when we walked to school, she suddenly just stopped. She pointed at the fence down the street.   "What is over there?"  "To be honest, I don't really know." I responded. "I think, it's some sort of military restricted area or something."

She grinned at me. It was a dangerous grin. "You mind making a little detour?" Before I could say anything, she'd already run off. When she reached the fence, she started it up. I'd followed her hesitantly to the fence, but now I stood still. "I'm not sure if this is such a good idea..." I said anxiously. She just sighed, took my hand and said "C'mon Al."

And then, we climbed up the fence.  All my fear and hesitation was gone, when we reached the top. Everything underneath us looked so small. How could I be afraid of something that was so much smaller than me?

And I swear, for the very first time, it looked like the world could not take us down. WE were the ones who could take IT down. If we wanted to.
I felt great, strong and unafraid. Chloe looked at me and smiled her wild smile. I could see that she felt the same.

Suddenly, I heard a deep, loud, manly voice, yelling: "Hey, you two little brats! WHAT THE HEL DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING UP THERE?!?" Chloe grinned again. She moved her head towards mine, really slowly. Then she whispered into my ear:
"You jump, I jump, Jack."
