The day started out like any other day for Christine Miller. Classes in the morning, then hang out with her boyfriend Wes Bowman and best friend Julie Hanson. It was near the end of their junior year in college. They've been tight since their first day on campus three years ago. Even though they were all are going into different directions, their bond is strong, and will remain friends forever; well, Julie and Christine will. Wes and Christine have a great dating relationship. This is not just a college thing, especially if it has been going on for three years. He is something special. Wes is studying to be a science teacher, Julie a fashion editor and for Christine, she wants to be a doctor. She likes to help people. 'I know I have more school after my senior year, but it's ok. I want this', she tells everyone. Her father was a doctor. Was. It's still hard to grasp that he is gone. He passed last year from a heart attack while in his office at the hospital. Her father was a great man and wonderful doctor. Her mom; Linda, she's also in the medical field, as a pediatrician. She loves children, even if she only had one child, Christine. Once Christine left for college, she only saw her mom on the weekends, even if it was only a forty-minute drive. She stayed with her, so they can hang out before returning to school on Monday's.
It was almost nine o'clock when Christine dropped Wes and Julie off at their apartments. It was Friday and she was spending the weekend at home with her mom. She kissed Wes goodbye and told him she would call him when she get to the house. She waved goodbye and took off. Ten minutes down the road and her gas light came on, so she stopped at the next gas station to fill up. While at the pump, lightning cracked in the sky and thunder rumbled. 'Shit.' She silently said. It scared the hell out of her. This is great, all she need is to be caught in a downpour while driving. She hated driving in the rain. Once the tank was full she got into her car and turned the key, that is when the sky opened up and the rain came down. She took her time and went under the speed limit, letting other cars pass her by. The drivers in Los Angeles drive like maniacs in any weather. Not Christine. She want to see the morning come. The radio was on low, but was humming along to the song that was on. It was Aerosmith's, I don't wanna miss a thing. She did love that song. Christine signaled right and checked the road as her car moved into the next lane as she was closing in on her exit at Wilshire Boulevard, when she felt her body jerk forward and hit the steering wheel.
She heard a woman screaming in the background "Call 911." Christine's body was cold and wet. She couldn't move. 'Why can't I move?' She thought to herself. She felt a sharp pain in her left ribcage. She tried to open her mouth to speak but no words came out. "They're almost here Hun, hang on." She heard the same woman speak to her and felt her grab her hand. Everything went black at that point.
Christine's eyes fluttered open then dropped shut again. 'What is going on here?' She thought. 'Come on eyes, open up.' She let her eyes flutter open again and began to blink rapidly to make sure they wouldn't close again. It was very light in here. As her eyes adjusted, she looked around. This was not her bedroom. She began to panic. There was a loud beeping coming from her left. She looked over and noticed it was an IV machine that was hooked into her arm. A hospital? Why am I in the hospital? "Well good morning sunshine!" A woman said as she walked into the room carrying a basket with empty vials. "I need to take some blood is all." She looked to be in her fifties with strawberry blond hair pulled back into a ponytail. Her tag read Ginger Reed RN. She gently stuck Christine's arm, and proceeded to take two vials of blood, then labeled them.
"Where am I?" Christine asked her, parched. She heardthe crack in her voice and held the cup of water that was on the table in front of her. "Sip don't gulp."She instructed her. "Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. You've been here for two days." Christine almost choked on the water when she said that. "Two days? What happened?" She asked. "I'll get Doctor Gilman now." Ginger left the room. She looked around to see if she can find anything that could tell me as to why she was in the hospital. She noticed on the white board, her name, date of birth and the letters OR/RES.
