Synopsis

In the ancient Roman coastal city of Salernum, AD 2, Leonidas Remmius Tertius, son of the weak but powerful senate member Decimus Remmius Varus, plots to end the life of his greedy older brother, Marcus Remmius Balbus, and his adulterous wife, Fulvia Remmius. Along with his fellows, Leonidas seeks to take the power his Brother has over their father for himself, bolstering his own wealth and social standing in the process. Meanwhile, Marcus, fearing the betrayal of his wife, begins to carelessly make his move against his father in the final stage of his grand plan.    


Main Characters

-Leonidas Remmius Tertius 

Leonidas Remmius is a rouge and a thief who hates his brothers position of power, he is shrewd and cunning and by no means noble, he leads the plot against his older brother in order to better his position and get closer to his easy manipulated father, whom is a member of the Senate, and someone with a lot of wriggle room to get things done.

-Marcus Remmius Balbus

Marcus Remmius Balbus is a strong figure within the family who holds immense manipulative power over his rather pathetic father, pushing him into making decisions that better his personal wealth, which he demands now more than ever in order to keep his lustful wife on his side. He despises Leonidas and believes him to be a crook.


Supporting Characters

 -Fulvia Remmius 

Fulvia Remmius is the wife of Marcus Remmius Balbus and daughter of the respected Roman officer Gnaeus Horatius Cocles, she is scandalous, lustful and extremely disloyal to Marcus, often to his anger. Unbonounced to Marcus Balbus, she has a secret relationship with her cousin, Maxentius Pompeius Septimus, and created a secret family with him behind her husband's back, one that Leonidas seeks to exploit in his search for wealth.

-Maxentius Pompeius Septimus

Maxentius Pompeius Septimus is the husband of Marcia Pompeius Iulia, and illegitimate husband of Fulvia Remmius. Fulvia and Maxentius are cousins, yet have had a close, though hidden, incestuous relationship since childhood. Being forced to love and marry Fulvia in secret behind the backs of both their families for so long has made Maxentius an extremely paranoid coward, and ever since his lovers betrothal to the powerful Marcus Pompeius, he has lived in intense fear of being discovered.

-Prepelaos of Macedon (Atticus Pompeius)

Prepelaos is a male Macedonian freedman, former slave of the Pompeius family and now Roman citizen. He has lost everything of value to him after committing the crime of fraud and being sold into slavery as punishment, capitis deminutio maxima. He has lost his family, his wealth and his social standing, he has even lost his name, being known, now, as Atticus Pompeius after inheriting his masters family name upon being freed. Prepelaos wishes to leave the hold of Salernum and return to his home within Macedon, a promise Leonidas has assured in exchange for information on Fulvia's illegitimate family.


Secondary Supporting Characters

 -Decimus Remmius Varus

Decimus is the family father and member of the senate, he was once a prominent member within the senate, and even a strategist in the Roman army at one point. However, he has now grown elderly and reduced his standing beside his fellow senators. His elderly state, coupled with the respect he has earned from his past years, has made him the target of his sons corruptions.
