Chapter 1

I straightened the bow on top of my head and looked down at my black shoes. I sighed and dabbed some lipgloss on. I heard mom call my name and I bounded out my bedroom door. I tried to turn off the light only to realize it was already out.

"Maddie we'll be late hurry." My mom told me as I grabbed my bag.

It was the day of my seventeenth birthday and my first day of school- senior year. My mom insisted on her taking me to school my "first day as a senior" because it would be "the last first day of school" for me.

My mom was sometimes really dramatic and trust me when I say that. She cried the whole way taking me to school, I'm seriously surprised we didn't wreck.

When we arrived my mom boohooed into the shoulder of my black and white polka dot dress. She ran her cold hands around my warm and pale neck and kissed me goodbye. I rolled my eyes and played along.

I got to my locker after greeting my "friends." I say "friends" because my real friends only exist in my mind and the only friend I have is Julia and she understands me in every way- but she lives 100 miles away and we only see each other once a month.

As I settled in to my first class, I had to step out and take my anxiety medicine in a rush for the fear of a panic attack was upon me. My teacher gave me a weird glare and I held up the pills to her behind my back where no one could see, she nodded a bit and continued talking. After the medicine kicked in I walked back in and sat down in the dark seats where thousands of butts have sat. That in itself have me anxiety.
