Coming Clean

I awoke in the hospital with my mom and Alex talking. They notice that I woke up and rushed over to me. I asked Alex of you could give my mom and I a few minutes and he happily obliged. 

"How long?" My mom asked

"A couple months" I replied

"Sweetie why didn't you tell me?" She asked with sadness laced in her voice.

"I didn't want to burden you with this. You have worked so hard to make sure I had a roof over my head and to keep me happy." I said with watery eyes

"We have to tell the school and AG about this." She said

"No that will just make it worse than it already is." I replied hurriedly

"Honey it's already worse you in a hospital. How could it get any worse. Actually don't answer that, but we need to tell them because that will make them stop. Also I would request for your classes to be the same as Alex so he could help with it. I will also come home earlier. No more late nights." She said 

"Mom you really don't have to do that." I said

"But I do sweetie. You don't think that I have noticed that we have gotten distant. I have also noticed that you weren't yourself lately. I knew something was wrong but also knew you would tell me... eventually." She said

I just nodded 

"Can Alex come in here?" I asked

She nodded and left to go get Alex. As soon as she left Alex came in.

"How are you feeling?" He asked quietly as if any loud noises will hurt me

"Better. Everything doesn't hurt as much." I said

"I'm sorry." He said sympathetically

"For what?" I asked confused

"If I had notice you were being bullied sooner none of this would have happened. You wouldn't be lying in that uncomfortable hospital bed." He said sadly

"Hey, it's not your fault they did it secretly at first the showed it more as the days went on. That day was just the day they decided to show everyone I guess." I replied 

By now he was sitting by the foot of the bed, so I shifted so that I'm sitting next to him. I leaned my head on his shoulder. We stayed like that for a couple minutes until he lifted my head to look at him. He slowly leaned in and for some reason I did too. The kiss was short and sweet, but it was also meaningful. Right when we pulled away my mom came into the room. We jumped apart and she looked at us sceptically and gave me a 'We'll talk later' look. 

A few days pass and I'm discharged. The next couple weeks consist of my mom working on telling the school and the coaches of AG. Eventually it happened and all the girls that bullied me was suspended for a month with tons of make up work that if they don't complete they might be held back. They were also suspended for the rest of the competition season. I was also moved to all of the classes Alex had so that he can protect me. We have become closer since the kiss. He asked me out a few days ago. Right now my life is pretty good.
