Mavis' Point of View
A week has gone by. And it was not normal at all.
There was a time where we are copying lectures, and AJ sat down beside me and awkwardly said “hello” to me.
And he would borrow anything worth borrowing from me, like: pen, notes, pencil, and more.
He wasn’t like this, y’know?
So, today’s the awaited event, Foundation Day. My classmates joined together to install many speakers around the school.
And I will stay inside our room with a mic and a laptop connected to all the speakers to hear the song I will play. The guys will give me papers from the customers.
Can you believe it? “Authorized Personnel Only” is plastered on the closed door. They are taking this too seriously.
Outside in front of our room was a mini tent where people will write on the sticky note, with a payment of five pesos. Jazz and two others are guiding and guarding.
As I was about to enter the room and do my job, someone gently held my shoulder.
“Good luck, Em!” Allen said with a wide smile. I was feeling nervous a while ago, but not anymore.
“Thank you, Allen.” I give him a sweet smile.
-----------------------------------------------------
“Konnichiwa, annyeong, good afternoon everyone! This is the Love Radio Booth. Located on the second room. Got a request? Someone to greet? Come and send me your message here in the Love Radio Booth. This is your DJ Em, ciao!” I said thru the mic.
Sigh. It started. I’m excited to have our first customer!
Allen entered the room. Well, it’s just me here. “That was cool, DJ Em!” He cheered me with a cheeky smile. “Some higher year students made a request.” He handed me a sticky note.
“That quick?” I asked with twinkling eyes.
“Yeah. Our classmates are spreading out in the campus, gathering customers. Sales talking.”
“That’s so cool..” I eagerly read the paper and announced it on the mic. “Hello again, everyone. We just had our first request for this day, coming from Joanne. ‘I would like to request Dead Man Walking by the Script. And I would like to greet my classmates from 3rd year section 1, Diddy, Rose, and Lanie’. So, Dead Man Walking it is! Keep the requests coming everyone!”
Then I played the requested song right away.
“You’re awesome. You’re doing it well.” I felt abashed by Allen’s words.. “So, let me not bother you anymore. I’ll be right outside.” Then he left.
Whew.
Many requests came in. And I am enjoying it, being a DJ. I’ve got many compliments from the customers. They said I have such sweet voice, and the songs I play whenever there are no requests are fun and cool, I got them dancing to the beat.
I’m really flattered!
AT the middle of my work, Jazz and Allen gave me snack and juice. Allen left the room first, Jazz followed after she handed me a paper and winked at me.
What’s up with this woman? Psh.
“We have another request! Coming from Awesome Jock. ‘This song suits you, DJ. I just happened to know it. I request Things I’ll Never Say by Avril Lavigne’.” Huh..? This request seems weird..
Awesome.. Jock?
I played the song anyway.
I’m tugging at my hair
I’m pulling at my clothes
I’m trying to keep my cool
I know it shows
I’m staring at my feet
My cheeks are turning red
I’m searching for the words inside my head
If I could say what I want to say
I'd say I wanna blow you away
Be with you every night
Am I squeezing you too tight?
If I could say what I want to see
I want to see you go down
On one knee
Marry me today
Guess, I’m wishing my life away
With these things I’ll never say
It don’t do me any good
It’s just a waste of time
What use is it to you
What’s on my mind
If it ain’t coming out
We’re not going anywhere
So why can’t I just tell you that I care
What’s wrong with my tongue
These words keep slipping away
I stutter, I stumble
Like I’ve got nothing to say
I read the paper again, but in my mind. ‘This song suits you, DJ’..
My mind became all confused.
