Maria's pov

Life is a mess at this moment I just got out of a fake marriage and on to the next. I'm so sick of saying a vow in front of God, knowing I'm gonna break it, so far I've married four men. It's been a year since I've started doing this, when my parents told me I had to it took me about 3 weeks to get myself together and face reality. My first "marriage" was hard, I hated every second even if it wasn't real, it felt like I was trapped. I still feel trapped.

Last week my dad told me my cousins were marrying the men and some women too, so I'm not the only one doing this. Next week is another marriage, he's my dad's right hand man. So we are gonna have a actual wedding, will not a wedding but just a big party. This will be a first. When I get married we don't have a wedding but my dad wants this man to have a wedding/party.

I could careless the men I marry mean absolutely nothing to me, even if I did have feelings for them it couldn't happen. That's one of the rules.

2 weeks later:

My reflection looks back at me in the mirror. Today is the day I meet the next guy, for some reason I'm nervous. I lent roll my black blazer off, its like I'm part of the cartel now so I have to dress like it. Slacks, blazer, and heels. That's what I wear for meetings, today I will be meeting him, I think my dad said his name is Miguel but I'm not for sure. Also, we have to go to a business meeting. Sometimes we gather to talk about the amount of money and drugs coming in, and talking about what we need to fix.

My driver will be here shortly so I slip my heels on quickly.

My driver opens the door for me, I say thanks to him. The only good think coming out of marrying these men is the money. For every marriage I get paid 5 millions dollars. My father is a very rich man and I guess I've taken one of his traits. The car seemed like it was moving slow, it felt like time was moving slower than ever. I just wanted to get there so this nervous feeling will go away. As we drive I sit in the back looking out the window, I look at the buildings and how they light up at night. The bright neon lights made me happy inside, it looked so pretty like in the movies.

I feel the driver press on the brakes, we've arrived. He opens the door for me and takes my hand as I step out, and of course I thank him again. The building was so tall, every part of it was glass. I walk in, the doors were automatic. There was a front desk lady she also had ties to the cartel. She told me to go to level 15 room 354. I follow her instructions. Soon enough I'm walking into the room, I look around I see my father and mother talking to people. Everyone in the room was a cartel member. I saw my cousins and a few of my aunts and uncles.

We all sit down at the huge conference table, I sat next to my cousin Rose. She was also a girl that married men that was something huge we had in common.
"discúlpeme señora," (excuse me Miss) I hear. When I turn around I'm greeted with a man with brown eyes, black hair with a little blonde in the front, with carmel skin. "Is someone sitting here?" He ask with a slight Spanish accent. I shake my head no.
"nadie está sentado aquí," (no nobody is sitting here) I reply back to him. He then pulls the chair out and sits down, he then turns and puts his hand out.
"My name is Miguel what is yours?" He ask.
"My name is Maria, mucho gusto," We shake hands and then a quick shoulder to shoulder hug, he gives me a quick peck on the cheek. It took me by surprise but I went with it. The room soon become quite and my father started speaking.
"Today we need to solve a problem... we need to bring these drugs in quicker and more efficient. It seems everytime we get them across the border we always get a scare. What I mean by that there is always something that goes wrong and someone has to fix. This needs to stop. So that mean all of the people in this room need to get their head out of their asses! I will not get caught! I am not a failure, nor is any of you," My father was speaking in a stern voice, but my head was somewhere else. It was on the man next to me. NO Maria snap out of it don't be dumb.

Soon enough the meeting was over after almost 2 hours. We all stood up and gathered our stuff. My father called me over he was next to Miguel and my mom. I walked my way over to the circle.
"Miguel this is my daughter Maria, Maria this is Miguel the man you'll marry next," My father said.
"We've already met dad," I say.
"Well then great, the wedding will be March 1st," I shake my head okay. My parents walk away and it leaves Miguel and me to talk.
"So you and my dad our close?" I ask him.
"Yes he took me in at a young age, I look up to your father," I smile, so does he.
I bite my lip as I look at Miguel up and down. His suit looked so sexy on him. He noticed and starting laughing, I cover my face in embarrassment.
"Would you like to go get some food once we get out of here?" Miguel asked. I was shocked but I kept it inside. Nobody has ever took me out or asked if I wanted to go do something. But then my father's rules pop in my head, but at this moment I don't care we are just going out for food.
"Yes of course I'm always in the mood for food," I smile a giggle he laughs.
"Okay sounds good,"

At the restaurant:

We decided on a small Mexican restaurant. I ordered carnitas and he ordered menudo. We sat and had small talk.
"So how did my dad take you in?" I ask him.
"When I was younger my family was very poor and didn't have anymore. My dad left and I had 5 other siblings. My mom couldn't pay for clothes or food so she kicked me out. I was a street rat. I had one friend he was white and from the U.S and we went to school together, he also taught me how to speak English. But anyways I was desperate and needed money so I started selling drugs, and my friend told me about your dad, he said your dad could get me off the streets and that's how it started," I took it all in, growing up I never thought of my dad as a drug dealer or killer. But when I turned 14 I found out everything. Our food finally came and we started eating.

It was quiet for a minute because we were eating but we started talking again.
"How do you feel about being a woman that marries men like me so we can get our citizenship," He asked
"Well I can't think about it too much or I'll stress. But this is my life, I was homeschooled so I never had much of a life outside of my house growing up, so I don't know any different. At first it bugged me but now I've gotten used to it," I say I didn't even think when I spoke it all just came out from the heart. We looked at each other in the eyes for a moment. We soon changed the conversation, Miguel took me home in his car, I already told my driver he was off for the rest of the night.

Tonight was a good night I enjoyed it, I really did. Miguel is a good guy but U can't say anymore because I just met him today. He ran through my head for the rest of the night until I fell asleep in my bed alone.
