It was Jess's 7th birthday and we were celebrating at Coney island. We invited all of her friends who brought gifts and food.
"Jess are you having a good time?" I asked kneeling down to her level.
"Yeah! Thanks Kiki!" She pulled me in for a hug. I smiled as I sent her back with her friends. They were taking pictures with Mickey Mouse and Elmo. I was glad that she was so happy.
Mom and Dad we're looking at the map planning where to go next. A tall figure interrupted my view of vision as it came towards me. I looked up and saw a boy about my age. He stood next to me as I watched Jess.
"So, your the birthday girl's sister?" He asked smiling.
I nodded as I took a seat at a nearby bench.
"I'm Melanie's older brother," he introduced. Melanie was apart of Jess's small friend circle.
"Oh," I nodded my head and smiled. I never talked to him before.
"Doesn't all of this get you thinking?" He asked turning towards me. I furrowed my eyesbrows in confusion.
"What?" I asked.
"Them. You see them having a good time and it just takes you back to when you were young. How life was easier." His gaze fell upon me as he crossed his arms. I thought about it for a second.
"All the time, actually. They are so young. And they have this one little life. And they need to live it to the fullest,"
"Kiki look!" Jess came running over to me. I looked at what she was showing me. It was a photo of her and Mickey and Minnie mouse.
I laughed. "Good for you," I brush her head and sent her back with her friends.
"You love her. That's good. Little girls like that, need all the love and cherishing they can get,"
**********
It was lunch time and I sat at my usual spot, chowing down on my usual food. Micah sat across from me. This was beginning to become a normal thing now.
Mia and her crew breezed past us with death-like stares. Typical.
But that didn't stop Ryan Winters to stop and try and make small talk with Micah.
She sat down right next to him and said nothing.
"Do you need something?" Micah spat. His mood changed completely when ever he encountered her.
"Nothing. Just wanted to make sure you know your way around properly. That tour is still open, whenever you need it," she winked and took a sip of his drink. He scoffed. He snagged back his soda and set it down.
"I don't think so," he looked over at me and I just looked away.
"There's a basketball game today. I was wondering if you wanted to come and see me cheer. Our skirts are really short ya know," she leaned closer towards him. I rolled my eyes. Micah, however, didn't move.
She got closer and whispered something in his ear. I balled up my fists under the table. For some reason, this made me furious.
She giggled as she slowly pulled away from him. Micah just looked at her and didn't say anything.
He smiled at first, then whispered something back to her. What the hell?
"Are you crazy?! Get away from me you lunatic!" She yelled, removing herself from the table.
"Babe, what's wrong?" Tristan, one of the male star athletes at our school approached us. He comforted her as she stood aganist the wall.
"He said nasty stuff about me, Tried," Ryan wimpered. I glanced back at Micah in complete and utter confusion.
"Dude? What's your problem?" He stepped closer to him. Micah stood up and was face to face to him.
"Trust me I don't want that. She came on to me. And I'd start looking elsewhere if this your alleged ''girlfriend.'' She doesn't seem to be loyal," Micah stepped even closer to him. I scoffed at his words. Sounds like something I would say.
"Alright, that's it!" Tristan lunged forward punching Micah dead in the face. I gasped as I stood up in shock.
He took a while to gather himself. Once he was back up and ran towards Tristan and body slammed him into the nearest table. My eyes opened even wider.
"Tristan! Stop!" Ryan yelled. I didn't want to interfere with any of them. So I stayed quiet and let my face do the talking.
Tristan kicked Micah off him and Micah fell onto his back. He groaned as I then ran over to him.
"Micah!" I was bent over him as he layed there moaning.
"Move." Micah struggled to get up and pushed me out of the way. I moved back and let him get up on his own.
Micah punched Tristan in the chest. Ryan gasped. There was crowds of people surrounding us in the cafeteria. Some recording, some trying to get them to stop.
They went on like that for a while until two security guards came and broke them up. Tristan was still yelling, trying to get out of the guards grip. He elbowed the guard in his chin causing him to fall backwards. Jesus Tristan it wasn't that serious.
He broke free and went for Micah. But the other security guard pulled him back. Plenty more security guards were in the cafeteria now.
"Cuff him!" I heard on yell. One of them who actually managed to get a hold of Tristan cuffed him as he headed out the cafeteria. I know Tristan was strong. I mean he was the star quarter back and point guard. But I didn't know he was that strong.
The other guard then cuffed Micah. His bruised forehead and cut lip just stared at me as he was pushed out. His eyes met mine. I wanted to say something but I didn't know what.
"I hope your happy with yourself!" Ryan yelled. Once I turned in her direction to see who she was talking to I saw it was me.
"Excuse me?" Was she insane?
"If your delinquent little boyfriend didn't start something with me this wouldn't have happened!" She fumed. Mia now stood behind her.
"Micah? Okay first of all, your the one who was desperate for him. So don't try and pin this on him you selfish prick,"
I pick up my things and exit the cafeteria.
The rest of my day went by so slow. I wanted to see Micah. And some part of me wanted to know if he was ok. I didn't know why I felt this way. And trust me, I didn't want it.
By the end of school, I still didn't see him. I was on my way home when I remembered that fight my parents had.
Suddenly I didn't want to go home anymore.
