Sean looked over his shoulder in apprehension. Breathing hard, he once again scoffed at what was happening. He was being chased by a girl named Erin. Sean yelled for someone to help him. If only he had never got into this mess; he had accidently knocked her into the mud as he was racing through the market, and now he couldn't tell if she wanted recompense or revenge! Erin finally caught up to him, tackling him to the ground, and causing Sean to cry out in pain.
"You owe me new shoes and a new dress! Or else!" Erin demanded, her dark eyes glaring daggers at him.
Sean sighed in defeat, not wanting to argue with her and risk being punched in the face, "Fine, I'll bring them to your house tomorrow."
Sean went home and changed out of his dirty clothes so he could go out and buy her new items. His family was very wealthy, so he decided to get her a very pretty and fashionable dress. That had to make her happy! The dress he had ruined was old and worn; he actually did her a favor by ruining it! He saw the perfect dress for her through a store window: velvet blue material with real sparkly diamonds scattered around. He looked over his shoulder at the shoe section and spotted the perfect shoes to go with the dress. They were sparkly glass slippers with a jewel placed in the center of each shoe. After paying for both items, he went home and carefully wrapped them in a package so they wouldn't break. He wrote an apology and stuck to the package. He told his parents what had happened, and they were proud of him for helping her. He went to bed, tossing and turning restlessly as he thought about the next day.
As the sun rose, he excitedly jumped from his bed, got ready, and ran out the door with the package in hand. He knocked frantically on the door, nervous but excited to see Erin's expression when she opened the package.
"Who is it?" He heard a muffled voice call from within.
"It's me, Sean!" he called. The door opened and out stepped a tired-looking Erin.
"You remembered!" She sounded relieved. She grabbed the package from him and ripped it open. Sean watched her face closely and was confused when he saw disappointment in her eyes.
"What's wrong with it?" he asked, feeling offended and confused.
"You ruined my working dress. You expect me to work in this? It will be ruined! And the shoes! They would break on the rocks while I did chores!"
"Oh... I'm sorry. I didn't know!" Sean defended himself. How was he supposed to know she did chores? He never had to. "Um, why don't you keep that for special occasions and I'll bring you by a new outfit this afternoon, okay?"
"Great!" She seemed excited to get to have two new outfits, one of them fit for a queen. Her mom came to the door.
"Oh, sweetie, you don't need to make him do that. I bet if you sold those shoes and that dress we would make quite the fortune. They're real, are they not? We could easily buy you a new work dress and shoes with the money." Sean noticed Erin's disappointed face as she realized her mother was probably right.
"No, no! Keep them. I promise to bring you brand new work clothes later, but only if you keep them! I don't mind, really." Sean said. Erin's eyes lit up again. He had no idea why he wanted to go out of his way to help this infuriating female.
