Harry sat in the empty compartment, staring out of the window as they left Kings Cross and journeyed on to a world he never thought possible. There was a knock on the glass of the sliding door. As he turned around, Harry saw a pale, white-blond haired boy with two rather large but clueless looking boys, that distinctly reminded Harry of his horrid cousin Dudley.
"Come in," Harry said, beckoning them.
He sat down on the opposite side, comfortably arranging himself so that he was relaxed.
"Hello, I heard a boy named Harry Potter was in this compartment, it cant be you, can it?" he asked, looking interested.
Harry stared at the boy for a moment then nodded obediently.
"Perfect," he said, looking at his friends meaningfully.
He stuck out his hand confidently.
"In that case, I'm Draco. Draco Malfoy." Draco said smugly.
They had a light conversation, Malfoy being careful not to ask anything about his parents or their death, which Harry found he was glad about, he couldn't even remember a majority of it. He had looked up to Hagrid, however, he was now slightly skeptical of him as Draco threw a disgusted look at anyone who mentioned him. A stout witch soon arrived at their compartment, Draco and Harry ordered a large number of Chocolate Frogs and Bertie Botts Every Flavour Beans. Draco laughed at the seat next to Harry, which was occupied with sweets. Draco shared his food with his two overgrown friends, who, in Harry's opinion, looked like they'd already had enough sweets to last them a lifetime. Harry ate his sweets hastily, he could only just see the outline of a large castle.
"We'd better change into robes, Crabbe, Goyle. I see Hogwarts already." Draco's voice was distinctly excited as he spoke. He changed into plain black robes, so did the other boys.
"Humph, I can't wait till these are embellished with the serpentine S and green and silver of Slytherin house, of course, my family has been sorted into it for generations, so I'm bound to be in it," said Draco, staring lazily at his current robes.
"Whats Slytherin?" asked Harry, cluelessly.
Draco rolled his eyes.
"It's a Hogwarts house, the best one yet." said the taller boy, in a deep, slightly menacing voice.
Harry decided on the rest of the journey that he wanted to be in Slytherin, Draco and his hunchbacks were the only people he knew, and he was going to stick with them for as long as he could.
Harry had gotten changed by the time they arrived at the school, and he and Draco walked side by side to some boats. Hagrid's deep voice echoed.
"Firs' years! Firs' years over here! All right there, Harry?"
Hagrid's big hairy face beamed over the sea of heads.
"C'mon, follow me -- any more firs' years? Mind yer step, now! Firs' years follow me!"Draco looked at Harry questioningly, but then shrugged and strode off toward a boat. Harry followed him, jogging to keep up with Malfoy's fast pace.
They sailed away in small bats, Harry had been afraid then Crabbe and Goyle's weight might've made the boat topple, but during the journey, he was reassured of just being paranoid. He looked over at Hagrid, who looked confused to see him with Draco and his cronies, rather than him and the redhead in the same boat. Perched atop a high mountain on the other side, its windows sparkling in the starry sky, was a vast castle with many turrets and towers.
Harry gaped, it was better than he imagined, and he couldn't wait to enter the large double door that Hagrid had knocked on.
