To start off Maurice's Christmas, he got kicked out of the Staples parking lot again! No matter how many times he explains his situation, that he can only afford a rusty car, they won't listen. Now he can't even get a job because on his criminal record it says he repeatedly disturbs the peace and uses the employees only bathroom.

So he's back at Alexa's house, again. No matter how many times she tells him to get a life he won't listen. Finally, she let him in because she was in the Christmas spirit. But she warned him to be on his best behavior because her family was visiting.

The family started piling into Alexa's house. When her mom got there she asked Maurice if he was Alexa's boyfriend. Without thinking, Maurice said yes, which resulted in a heavy slap across the face from Alexa (not her mom). But it was too late!

At the dinner table that night, Alexa's mom tapped a glass to get their attention.
"Everyone say hello to Alexa's boyfriend!"
Everyone said hi, because they were polite, but inside, they reacted differently.

Alexa's dad was angry, but he didn't say anything. Her grandma was secretly shipping them way too hard. All of Alexa's cousins were speechless with gross.

Maurice stood up and said "hello everyone, I'm Alexa's boyfriend and that's my car out there," he punted to his rusty, falling apart car in the driveway. "I live in the staples parking lot normally so this is an upgrade from what I'm used to. You know they clean those bathrooms about once every 2 years?"

Alexa's mom started doubting the relationship. Alexa's dad was now exploding with rage. But her grandma reminded everyone that as long as they're happy it doesn't matter. That didn't help anything.

Alexa was repeatedly slapping herself in the face and thinking You had one job Maurice!

When it was time for bed, everyone had a spot to sleep except Maurice. So he asked Alexa if he could sleep in her bed and she was like "heck no!"  So Maurice slept on the floor in the basement, which was still an improvement from his car, considering he had a pillow

The next morning, Maurice made a big show of telling Alexa to open his card first. It read:

To my one true love, Alexa,
I know we have had our differences. And that we're technically not actually dating. And that I don't have any money and can't get a job anymore but you are the only person who doesn't judge me.

Alexa stopped reading and told him "Oh I judge you. I just do it silently."

I know we have only dated for half a day,

Alexa paused again: "Wait, you wrote this last night didn't you!"

I love you with all my heart, and maybe if I can get the Staples to erase my criminal record and if I buy a better car, this relationship might work out.
Love,
Maurice.

Alexa sighed. "Okay, I'm fake breaking up with you."

Alexa's family (except for her grandma) sighed in relief.
