They twinkle all around me,
Like stars, in the night.
Each one so pretty,
Guarded by its little glass jar.
New jars constantly being added,
On the rows of empty shelves.
Those shelves held the jars, which held the wishes, the people made on stars.
I carefully reach up,
Standing on tiptoe, pulling down a jar.
I am the granter of wishes.
And I decide which ones come true.
The jar I reached for shines especially bright,
A soft, pale pink, the wish glows.
I rest my fingers on the jar in my hand,
And reach for the clasp.
Inside the jar I can see the wish,
Of a boy and girl holding hands.
I take the lid as I prepare to close it back,
I thought it was special.
It was just a normal wish, wait, no!
There was definitely something there!
The wish began to hum,
A beautiful melody.
I watched, awestruck as the wish fills the room with images,
The boy and the girl have been split apart, glaring at each other,
I see people hungry on the streets,
Wars, battlefields, covered in bodies.
What is this wish?
In the midst of all the images flashing
I see a girl,
She smiles gently, looking up at the sky.
As a shooting star flies past,
I feel her make the wish:
I wish I could take away everyone's problems, and pain, and suffering.
Startled, I jump back,
The wish hums louder, and louder,
Until it's deafening.
A wish like this is too powerful!
I can't possibly let it be granted, the consequences!
I frantically grabbed the jar,
Reaching for the wish,
But I'm a second too late.
It flies away, down to Earth,
I'm so scared, I'm shaking.
I peer into the world that now seems so far away,
All at once, a wave washes over the planet.
The smell of jasmine permeates the air,
As the wave passes, people stop in their tracks.
Serenity on their faces.
They seem frozen, almost like porcelain dolls,
As if you touch them they could break into a million little pieces.
I don't know what's going to happen.
As I watch the scene unfold, I don't notice that someone has joined me in the realm of dreams,
It's the girl who made the wish.
Do you know what you've done?! You have broken the laws of wishing! No world-breaking wishes!
I whirl on her, seeing the terror on her face,
I soften my voice.
I'm sorry, I'm just a little anxious.
We have to go, now!
And fix this mess, before we're stuck forever.
Go where? What have I done to everyone? All I wanted, was to help!
It's okay,
We have to go see the ruler of dreams.
Esperaunce, is what they call him.
We need to convince him to undo the wish, before Earth is stuck like that forever.
I shake my head nervously.
Esperaunce may the king of dreams,
But he is known as the king of nightmares,
His terrifying reputation precedes him.
I suppose if we are going to travel together, we should introduce ourselves.
I'm Reverie, what's your name?
Andromeda.
Guardian of star-wishes.Hello, my dear readers!
This style of writing is completely new to me, so bear with me. I intend this to be like a fantasy-adventure short story, but written like a poem. Please review, I'll take all criticism. Please let me know if you see any stories that are eerily similar, or let the people at Wattpad know. I hope you liked the first part of Wishes!
Adieu,
Harper
