"Is there something special about you?" Lord Ash continued, his tone highly doubtful and yet oddly interested. "Are you of wizard blood, or hero-marked by a fortune teller at birth?" His lip curled in a sneer. "Don't be modest now, boy. I like a good story."
He swung his hand towards the other Inorog standing statue-still among the sizzling ley lines; their red-rimmed spires glowed with bursts of light as if they were sucking blood from the earth itself. "As you can see, our dragon-trap isn't quite ready yet. So go on, amuse me—spin your destiny well enough and I might just let you live."
So he was doomed.
Kit knew there was nothing in his meager stretch of fourteen years that could save him from the violent whims of Lord Ash . . . .
