Makenna James is your typical high school teenage girl. Well she isn't that typical at all. She is a very caring person, but her caring and seeing the best in everyone didn't do much except change her. She used to be the happiest girl you'd meet. She would skip through the hallways, but now that's a rare thing. She is happy and has a great life. She has a two loving parents, two amazing younger siblings, and an adorable puppy. She has a roof over her head, clothes to wear, food to eat. She is good looking and has a great personality. She has brilliant friends and from time to time has a boyfriend. Seems like a life people would give anything to have. She really does love her life, but something has changed her from the happy, bubbly girl she used to be, but no one really noticed that. She isn't fine. Her friends notice she's staring blankly at a wall yet choose to brush it off as her thinking. Well yeah, she is thinking, but not about her tv shows or books or music or family or school or friends. Nope she is thinking about negatives. She really tries to build herself into the person she used to be, but at times it seems as if she is so broken it's pathetic to even wish to be that person. She needs to find the surface, but she feels as if she's sinking into a weird depression. She is not suicidal or feels the need to self harm or starve herself she just feels as if a black hole has swallowed her whole. She just goes on pretending everything is okay when really okay is really all she wants is someone who understands her.
Alec Williams is an outcast and really doesn't mind it. He has a couple of friends, but doesn't really like to be around people. He would much rather be playing guitar or listening to music then texting and hanging out with people. He doesn't talk much in school, but he is always noticing things other people don't. He doesn't have the perfect family, but it works for him. His mother walked out on him and his father when he was only four years old and he now has a step mother. He is happy with his life, but is feeling quite sick of it. So he goes on with his life acting like he doesn't have something that is eating away at him and he can just mask it as being anti-social.
What happens when Makenna bumps into Alec in the hallway at school causing her stuff to fall everywhere? What will happen when Alec looks into her eyes and realizes she is not the happy cheerful girl she pretends to be?
